Quoting I'm Marbles:" Probably outside the bathroom waiting."

Idk, I would think a rape and murder would take a while. Did she not get suspicious when she noticed her daughter was taking a bit longer in the restroom?

It could seriously take less than 5 minutes to rape and kill someone.
Could have thought her child was going poop. IDK
If my child wants privacy I will stand outside the stull but I would not feel comfortable standing outside the bathroom while my son or daughter goes in there alone until they are atleast 10 or so.

Yeah, maybe. I feel the same way. I'm just a scary cat when it comes to LO. DH says it's all the ID shows I watch.

For me, I know for certain my kids will not go to the bathroom unattended until at least 10.

What happened today, that spurred my question:

My aunt brought my 5 and 3 year olds home from gram's with her friend. Sitting down at lunch my aunt said they stopped at Costco to use the bathroom and grab a few things. My oldest age 5 needed to go pee and he refused to go in the men's bathroom by himself while she waited outside. Instead he followed her friend into the women's bathroom after thinking about it for awhile. She was telling him no, but he went anyway.

I told her, he absolutely was not ever allowed to use the bathroom unattended. There are creeps out there. I was very flabbergasted. She asked, "even at Costco while I stand outside"? I said yes. Even at Costco. Last year some man tried to take pictures of a little boy under the stall at a toysrus. I was shocked.

So she says all snotty, I guess that's something I need to call you about in the future. So I told her no. She doesn't need to call. She needs to accompany him. After that she didn't talk to anyone and pushed her chair out and sat far away from the table and told my 5yr old, she needs her bubble.

So then I asked the nurse at urgent care tonight (a whole different story) about it and she said, she would never let her child under age 10 go alone and then another nurse came up shaking her head and said absolutely no. And another nurse piped in and said have her call here and have her talk to one of us ladies. See what she has to say than. And she would never be able to watch my kid again with that attitude. Bathrooms are a dangerous place. And they all chimed in with yeah.

Sorry for the story. Hits a little close to home tonight. Thank god my son knows my rules and chose the woman's bathroom. And followed his better judgement. DH noted her tone and rudeness, but said it could be because I went on and on about the dangers.

Ugh. We were at a local amusement park once (in the off season, it was not very busy at all) and I was on a ride when DD1 told DH she had to use the bathroom. She was barely 3 years old. He had her go into the women's bathroom alone! She was still in there when I got off the ride and I was like "You did what!?" he was standing outside the door waiting for her, but I went in and there was another woman in there talking to my DD1, who was in a stall with the door wide open (HELLO, 3 year old cannot close a stall door and lock it!) sitting on the toilet. The woman was nice, and I think she was genuinely concerned with a tot in there alone she was looking out for her (I THINK) but she could have been a crazy person for all I or DH knows! He said he didn't know if he was allowed to go in or not, I explained to her that her being so little he should have taken her into the mens room and covered her eyes if necessary and take her to a stall. People understand little kids have to be accompanied by an adult!

ANYWAY, if I'm standing outside the door or have the door clearly in view, I'd say 6-ish (assuming it's not a big crowded place). If I'm not by the door, I'd say 10-ish. If it's a large place and very crowded, I'd say 13.

I'd say 10+. I'm a little on the overprotective side, though.

Quoting Viv, Ev & Gwen ♥:" Hmmmm I don't know. My daughter is 5 and I still go with her. Maybe 8ish if I can see the restroom."
i agree with this i have a 6yr old daughter and a 8 yr old son if we r in a resturant where the restroom is close enough to see who goes in and out i let them go alone but if its too far away i take them. tho i have let my 8 yr old set in the theater at the movie while i took his sister to the bathroom simply because i trusted him enough to stay put.
