The only time they do it here is if the child is under 16 yrs of age, and its not cause of medical or family reasons.

If a child under 16 is skipping school, the parents get fined 100 dollars a day that they are not in school.

16 is the legal age to move out and drop out and decide if you want to continue going to school. Parents cant make their kids attend after that age anymore.

But its stupid for a 16 yr old to drop out here, most only have a yr or 2 left of high school anyways. lol

I think its stupid in your brothers situation, but am all for it, for skipping school. And I beleive its the parents responsability to pay up and take action for their child skipping. But I also beleive the child should have some sort of pay up aswell.

Yeah, I can't give any credit to what she says. Especially after the, "school needs to get the smurf over it" comment.

She clearly reads what she wants to read, interprets it to suit her agenda, and you're just an idiot if you say otherwise.

I don't agree that they're "making money", but it's true that poor attendance will affect the school districts funding. I also don't agree that the schools have too much control. They're required by law to report truancy to the appropriate authorities.

Not individually. The most he ever missed at the same time was three. When I missed that many days my parents went and picked up my homework and dropped off my papers every week. Really not that difficult.

My thing is how is punishing the parents going to teach the child? Yeah they may get a lecture but in the long run that needs to be on them. Like said community service, maybe doing janitorial stuff for the school, grading papers for teachers, stuff like that.

They are making money which is why they push attendance so hard. As the school principal they will tell you. My dad was amazing friends with my middle school principal and he told them straight up why they were so hard on everyone about attendance.

I know, I get it. Forcing your child to go to school is a difficult concept for you.

All children, between certain ages are required by law to be enrolled in some kind of educational system. Home school, private school, online classes, PUBLIC SCHOOL, whatever you - the parent - feels best suits your child's needs.

As a parent, if you choose to enroll your child in public school, you are responsible for making sure they attend.

Is that good enough for you?

Again, why are you trying to fault a school district for bringing in as much money as possible?

You need to buy books, you need to pay teachers, the god damn cafeteria needs a new roof.

Of course, if you're willing to shell out the cash yourself, I'm sure they'd be grateful.

Lol I am. I will be sending my children to private school. I cannot stand the public schools.

i don't see what the problem is with the schools and school district getting money for the kids that go there. it goes to books, supplies, to pay the teachers and staff, etc... so, why is that so bad?

do you have an exemption on your taxes because you homeschool? i'm just wondering if that even exists or not. because if you don't, whether you like it or not, you're paying towards your school district, even if you don't have kids that go there.
