Quoting ILOVEWINE:" <blockquote><b>Quoting Raindancer:</b>" you are an idiot because you apparently cannot ... [snip!] ... to follow? Just let them show up when they want, then when they fail blame the teachers, right? Spend a day working in school."When you drop your kid off at school or your child is supposed to take the bus to school but skips instead that is not the parents fault that is the childs fault. Why should the parents be held at fault for their kids doing stupid smurf like this? If the child thinks they are grown up enough to skip school then they can take responsibility for their actions and face the charges.
Quoting Raindancer:" Yeah and they can drop them off at school and have their kid run off top skip school. Now if you ever have a teenager that does that to you do you really want to be blamed for their actions?"
Quoting Raindancer:" When you drop your kid off at school or your child is supposed to take the bus to school but skips instead ... [snip!] ... child thinks they are grown up enough to skip school then they can take responsibility for their actions and face the charges."
Quoting loser mom:" clears that up The point was schools have to set a time limit. They cannot cater to each individual ... [snip!] ... how could you NOT know they're skipping school? A few days could slide through, but not enough to warrant TRUANCY charges. "Yes they could. When I was in school kids would be dropped off and just leave school all of the time. The parents never knew about it until the school actually thought that they should maybe contact the parents and ask why their child has been absent for the past week. People at my school bragged about that smurf. One guy missed 20 something days before his mother found out. They couldn't afford a phone and he always checked their mail which means the mother never knew, as far as she knew he was going to school the whole time. Should she really be held responsible for that?
Quoting Raindancer:" Yeah and they can drop them off at school and have their kid run off top skip school. Now if you ever have a teenager that does that to you do you really want to be blamed for their actions?"
Quoting MommaNoodle:" wouldn't that be swell. but, remember, they are minors. they are not legally responsible for their actions ... [snip!] ... 18.... so.... no. but you can ground them or give them detentions or in-school suspension. or take away other privileges. "Grounding kids doesn't do anything now a days. They are legally responsible for their actions or we wouldn't have jail for juveniles. All of the parents would be going to jail when their kids steal or rob or murder.
Quoting Raindancer:" Yes they could. When I was in school kids would be dropped off and just leave school all of the time. ... [snip!] ... mother never knew, as far as she knew he was going to school the whole time. Should she really be held responsible for that?"

Quoting Amelia Margaret:" I might personally escort them to their classes if that became a problem. Once it got to that point ... [snip!] ... what I would do, I've never had a teenager. I do know however that whatever I did would be my responsibility as the parent. "I would totally do that once I found out.
Quoting Amelia Margaret:" If the parents are being informed of the truancy and are not taking action to resolve it then yes, they are at fault. "She didn't know he had been doing that. He took the letters they got and threw them away. She never knew.
Quoting loser mom:" Yup. No matter how you cut and dice it, it's still the parents' place to make sure their children are in school."I really hope your children do this to you then.
Quoting Raindancer:" She didn't know he had been doing that. He took the letters they got and threw them away. She never knew."
Quoting Raindancer:" I really hope your children do this to you then."
Quoting Amelia Margaret:" They would have to have proof that the mother had been contacted before she could be charged."Here they count sending out letters as proof.
