What punishment would you give...

If your 5 year old poured the almost full can on Ajax all over the bathroom? DS was suppose to be taking a bath, when I go check on him the floor, bath, toilet, sink, and himself were full of Ajax powder. I feel like he is way too old to be doing this crap!! He was never like this when little, I never even had to lock cabinets because he was just never curious. This is the second time he does something like this (but much worse this time) in just this week. All I can think is take his iPad away.

His iPad isn't related to the Ajax incident.
I'd have him clean up the bathroom, and go to bed.

I'd make him help me clean it up, then I'd take away the iPad.

Make him clean it up then have a talk.

To be honest, I'd blame myself for leaving something like that in reach. I would explain to him how dangerous it.is to touch things like that and maybe send him to bed early.

I did that with baby powder when I was 5. Idk what ever prompted me to do it, but my mom was PISSED.

Have him help you clean up the bathroom and put him to bed early.
Next time, supervise him a little better or move things that he can get into to a higher shelf or cupboard.

Your 5 year old has an iPad? No way would my 4 or 5 year old have one, those are for adults, not children! Mine only have Innotab 2's but anywho..I would have made him clean it up. My 5 year old acts older for her age so I wouldn't expect her to do it either but if she did, guarantee she'd be cleaning it up!

I don't think it has to be related to the incident. Punishment should make the action not worth doing. If taking away his iPad does that then great. If you take it away and the behavior continues then you obviously need to try something else. Punishment depends on the child. What works for one may not work for another.

He'd clean his mess and wipe down the bathroom counters while he's at it. Then of course a discussion on why playing with cleaning supplies can be dangerous.
