I don't do good with blood or guts. UGH! Like yeaaa...instead my son loves that kind of stuff. He also already has decided he is going to be a fire fighter when he gets older.

I sensor certain things like I don't like him listening to rap. Some of that is very racist. I don't allow him to watch sex scenes in movies he had to cover his eyes and I make sure he does. Even at age 12 he covers his eyes automatically. I still let him watch those types of movies with us. As he is going to learn and watch it elsewhere anyways. As for swearing in music and movies I swear in front of him. Even when people swear around him and say oops sorry he tells them it's ok my Mom swears I'm just not allowed to. He swears with his friends as he has told me that but won't use them in front of me. I guess it all depends on your tolerance and what you teach them when it is appropriate to use it. I've always told him swearing is for adults and until he is old enough to use them appropriate then he won't be allowed to use them.

I usually don't censor myself. My son knows what words are "bad words" that he isn't allowed to say.

no tv or music above pg for my kids. I'm a mean mom

I censor very little where my children are concerned. I like taking away the thrill of watching or listening to things I have forbidden.

Quoting snglemama:" If you swear...either in front of your kids or not.. do you screen their music? I try not to swear in ... [snip!] ... never heard it before. I kinda agree.. but.. that one might've been a little more than I'd like them to be singing. D&D.."
I do. But not for swear words...
I screen it for sexual songs that are too graphic or songs about killing people graphically...

I censor some music (or try to). Thrift shop is pretty bad. I am more involved when it comes to violence. We never watch grown up TV in front of her and only age appropriate video games. I am fairly lax when it comes to music.

I do not swear in front of anyone, much less my son.
I have online...and felt TERRIBLE about it.
I listen to ALL Christian music. Hymns, Rap, hard rock, pop...I listen to it all and swearing just doesn't happen. I will shelter my kid(s) from all bad language and pretty much all worldly music. I WANT him to be shocked to hear swear words, and not be desensitized to them, where he thinks it's "normal" or "allowed".
I will continue to do this as long as I am the one making his decisions for him. After that, he's on his own and will have to make those choices for himself. Hopefully, I will have taught him well.

I swear a lot, but have cut back a lot in front of DS after he began picking up a few words. My parents didn't censor themselves, well...my mom didn't. I can't recall a time where I heard my father cuss. As far as music goes, I don't really listen to anything that has a lot of cuss words or racial slurs in it, but DH does. DS may hear a song here and there, but it isn't constant.
I'm more concerned about what DS hears from us and family. Like I said DH and I try to censor ourselves, but our families are the issue. I just feel like it's a losing battle anymore.

We swear alot, which we are working on not doing it in front of LO. I voted if it's not that bad.
quoteposted 30th Jan
The only thing we are cautious about is violence.
I think there's a big difference between a song using bad language (ex: "It's Britney, bitch") compared to violent language (ex: "I'm going to load my gun and kill people!").

I was never sheltered as a kid, and I pretty much will raise my son the same way I was. I think I turned out pretty good so if it aint broke, dont fix it
But really, my mother and grandmother curse like sailors. I wasnt taught cursing was wrong, just disrespectful. I will never curse in front of my mother. As she will never curse in front of hers. With peers, she knows I cuss and didnt care as long as I knew how to speak around her and adults and in public.
