Sleeping in a crib

posted 27th Jan
How do you get your baby to sleep in their crib without using CIO?

Mallory is 7 weeks 2 days old & has slept in her crib twice. However, that was 2 weeks ago & both nights were miserable. Up/down/up/down every hour. She wouldn't just SLEEP like she does in our room. She's been sleeping in her rock & play sleeper which she loves, where she is next to my bed & I'm able to rock her back to sleep if she fusses at all. She will usually go for 6 hours of sleep straight, get up around 5am, get fed & go back to sleep. If she sleeps with me she will sleep a straight 8 hours. But I really don't want her in our bed, I really want her in her own bed.

She hates to be swaddled! I wish she liked it because my DS LOVED his & was the only way he'd sleep in his crib. She also has colic so she screams a looot at night. It's just frustrating. For right now she is fine in her rock & play sleeper but she's getting bigger & soon she'll out grow it to where she'll have no choice but to go into her crib.

Suggestions would be appreciate. Thanks

maybe try putting the crib in your room for a few weeks, then move baby to their own room?

If she has colic you pretty much just have to ride it out   true colic can't be calmed. I feel your pain, my first daughter had colic

My DS had colic for 6 months     it SUCKED. But like I said he would finally be calmed in his crib by being swaddled. Her..... she screams harder   So I just don't bother.

If I could lay her on her belly I know she'd sleep that way but I cannot because of being afraid of SIDS & she spits up due to acid reflux. We cannot win. lol

I've been told to just let her cry in her crib, she'll get used to it. But I just cannot do that to her   she is too little.

oh yeah, don't. She's WAY too young for that.

Why can't she sleep in the Rock n Play still? She's still just a newborn. My DD slept in a glider until she was almost 6 months old because she had AR and had to be propped up when she slept.

My LO is nine weeks old and has just started sleeping in her crib at night. We started by putting her down in it for naps during the day. At first it was a little rough, but when she started crying, we'd just go in there and pet her hair and make shushing sounds. She's eventually realize nothing was wrong and go back to sleep. We also let her have a pacifier to fall asleep.
She also has acid reflux, but it's been getting better since our pedi prescribed xantac, so maybe you could talk to yours about that?
We've honestly been letting her sleep on her belly for over two weeks now. She can turn her head from side to side perfectly, though, and has never gotten stuck. We check on her multiple times during her naps and throughout the night, though. I was scared about letting her sleep on her belly at first, but got used to it pretty quickly when I realized how much better she was sleeping.
Unfortunately, I don't have much else to advise. I hope you get her used to it pretty soon. Good luck

We lucked out here because DS slept in the detachable bassinet that came with his pack n play and when he was too big for it (at 3 months, his feet would dangle off the side) we just detached it and laid it in the crib with him. We know you're not supposed to put anything in there with them but we were confident it was okay (we had the angel care monitor) and he transitioned beautifully. There were some hard nights but all in all it wasn't too bad.

Wow she's 7 weeks already! Crazy!!! For my daughter she also hated to be swaddled and as soon as I'd lay her in her bassinet shed wake right up she liked being held or in her swing to sleep, I slept on the couch some nights next to her swing cause that's the only way I could get her to sleep for a few hours at a time. When I started putting her in her crib.... When she would fall alseep during the day for naps I would go and lay her in her crib and let her nap in there so she got use to her crib and her room. She was maybe 3 months when I started that. She adjusted really well pretty quick, I'd have to rock her in the rocking chair at night and let her fall sound asleep then id put her in her crib. I also gave her a warm bath every night before bed which I think helped relax her to sleep better. I am going to try it with this baby hopefully this baby is as easy as my daughter was!

Hmmm. I probably could but the only thing that worries me there is that she is going to work with me on Tuesday (I start back tomorrow, I work at a daycare) & if she gets used to the tummy at home she'll want it there too & I don't know if I trust that whole situation when I'm not in the same classroom as her. If that makes sense. lol

Yeah I know. My mom keeps saying to do it too I'm like NO NO NO. No way.

She is still in it. I'm just saying I know she'll out grow it within the next few weeks. She's getting so big already!   but also once they learn to roll over it is probably not too safe to be in one of those I would assume?? Although it does tremendously help her with her AF.

Thank you

She actually started taking that medicine about a week ago but I think I am going to tell her pedi to up the dosage. He started her on 0.8 ml 2xs a day & it's helped some what but not much.

Yeah!! Crazy isn't it?! She's getting soooooo big!

That's actually what I did as well lol that whole routine of food, bath, etc. I never had a glider with Landon so having it now with Mallory has been WONDERFUL. That is one of the few things that will calm her when she's screaming with colic at night.

Mallory is the same way with waking up once she's laid down. I swear she'll be completely asleep, lay her down & BAM her eyes pop open & she starts crying. I'm like ahhhh. lol

My son layed in his rock n play until he was like 6 months. It goes up to 50 lb so she should be fine for a while longer. I'm really no help though, my sons still sleeps in our bed and he's 21 months lol.
