to induce or not?

I will be 40 weeks in a few days and am still only 1.5 cm dilated. I haven't had any more dilating for weeks now and baby still hasn't dropped but he is in position. At my 38 week and 39 week appts doc stripped my membranes hoping to get things going. I have been steadily losing my mucous plug for ab 3 weeks now. Had some discharge. Been having very irregular bh but nothing painful. My body is soooo sore and I am huge bc I am measuring a few weeks further due to excess amniotic fluid. I have tried absolutely everything to get this baby out of me and he is just being so stubborn. Doc mentioned that I could induce whenever I want but said since I am a first time mom that I have a 70% chance of csection but I really don't want that. Induction would be soooo nice bc of schedules and such but I don't want to risk a csection. We are doing an ultrasound to get an idea of how bog lil man is. So the question is....what do you girls think? Anyone else been in this boat before and what were your experiences??

I would just wait until an induction is medically necessary. The average first time mom goes over. You can usually go to 42 weeks before and induction becomes more a necessity.

I'm in the same position as you. I'm 40 weeks 3 days now and my doctor scheduled me to be induced this Wednesday but I am really considering canceling it because I'm scared of getting the pitocin and possibly having a c section. It is really tempting though to just keep it and have it all done with in 3 days... I'm 2 cm dilated and I'm going to ask my doctor tomorrow to sweep my membranes.

I think it's odd that you've had a membrane sweep before you're even due, and every unhelpful that you've had checks for dilation and been told the result. Most first time moms will not dilate at all until they're in labour, that's normal. It doesn't mean you're going to be greatly overdue or that you won't be able to deliver naturally or any other myth about it.

I'd have checks to ensure baby was doing well and continue the pregnancy until you go into labour when LO is ready, whether that be in 2 days or 2 weeks.

I was induced 40 weeks 3 days and had to have a c-section. Am a first time mom. Induction hurts worse than normal labor (I've heard). Wait a little longer. You can go to 42 weeks.

I was induced with my first pregnancy and i went on my own with my second. It was so much easier and faster when i went on my own. I will never get induced again unless its medically necessary. If i was you i would wait, it wont be much longer anyway.

I was suppose to have my daughter in December 8th of just this past year and it was my first baby. I went in on December 10th for my dr to check to see if anything had happened. I finally was 1cm dilated and he told me he doesn't like people to go over 5 days so he scheduled me to be induced on the next night. I went into the hospital to get induced like we planned and nothing went wrong. It went so smoothly and I had to have been the luckiest person ever because I felt zero pain whatsoever! So in my case the induction was just fine. Labor lasted 12 hours.

Have you tried natural things to help move things along like nipple stimulation and accupressure?
Since you've already made a bit of cervical progress natural methods might do the trick without the need for a medical induction.
Nipple Stimulation: 10 - 15 minutes on each side. May be easier with a pump or the help of your SO.
Pressure Points you and your SO can try to encourage baby to drop, cervix to become more favorable, and bring on more regular contractions:

These methods won't do anything if your body isn't ready. At least three people I know avoided inductions this way.
Best of luck.

Did they give you pitocin? I heard all these horror stories and that pitocin makes contractions hurt like 100x worse. I'm planning on canceling my induction for Wednesday but its just so tempting idk what to do

Yeah they gave me pitocin. I got my epi at 4cm dilated. They just kept asking if I was in pain and I told them maybe I felt a 3 out of 10 (10 being the worst) and they said they could give me the epi so that way I wouldnt feel any pain. I had no problems at all with my labor.

We have tried everything. Sex, spicy foods, nipple stimulation, walking, etc. We have tried it all with no success. I am just a few days away from my due date and am so miserable. I do not want a section. I think I'm gonna try and let him come on his own if I can. I'm just so tired!! Lol. Thanks for the help though!!
