helmets for flatspots

so dd is 6 months and has to go in to be evaluated for a helmet at 7 months. just wondering what to expect? how long before we get it? how long (roughly) will she have to wear it? she's def going to need one... no question about that. I keep seeing them decorated, do they come like that or do the parents do it? Do babies sleep ok with them? How do baths work? sorry for all the questions... im sure the doctor will tell us all this but the appointment is over 20 days away. just curious.

For us it took 1 week after the head scan. He needed to wear it 23 hours a day, with the hour off being bath time and time to clean the helmet. The length of time depends on how many growth spurts your baby has. Sleeping wasn't a problem. They had us gradually increase the time he was in it. Dont just put it on and leave it on at first. We did have to go in and get the side shaved down because it caused an awful red mark. After about 2 weeks I decided to take it off him. His head wasn't that bad and it still changed and looks good to me now.

Meaning from taking it off to now his head is still changing. The two weeks did nothing and I didn't think it would obviously in that short amount of time.

My youngest niece got hers not too long ago (a couple months maybe). After getting measured it took them about a month to get it, I dunno if that's normal or if she postponed an appt. They worked her up to 23 hours a day. She gets her bath and other relaxing time before bed during the hour its off. Once she got used to it she sleeps fine and doesn't pull at it or anything, she HATED hats so I was surprised she adjusted so fast. Hers is pink and they sometimes put big flower headbands over it but normally just leave it plain, you can decorate it however you want.

I cant wait, her head has a flat spot them because her head was SO big at birth... instead if it swelling to one point at the top it made one on each side of her head at the top so she looked like she had a heart shaped head. the doc said the helmet would help with that too, this picture is when she was 3 weeks you can see her heart shaped head (shes on the left obviously lol)

Awww she's adorable. My sons was on the side. Even the lady said it was borderline. We were able to pick out which design we wanted, we chose a plain blue and you can put stickers on them, decals might work too. I've seen some real cute ones.

my SO wants to make it look like evel knievel's helmet so when nosy people ask what its for we can say shes aspiring to be a dare devil lol
