The whole social thing is laughable, really. I can see how it could be a problem, I suppose, but you'd have to work to keep your children away from others. It is just natural (for our family) to have our child around others on a very regular basis, I can't imagine it any other way.

You do realize they have complete curriculum plans for parents to follow, right? Sure, not all parents do...but most homeschoolers take their child's education very serious.

Bullies are everywhere; homeschooling just to shield your child is dangerous ground, I think.

Thats great for those 65 families that are apart of that group. But honestly most people I know who homeschool have no business training a damn dog let alone trying to teach their children. And again Im not saying that all homeschooling parents are like that but IMPO your child's education is too important to risk messing up because you yourself dont know as much as you think you do KWIM?

This is NOT my only reason. It's just an add on. I feel like I could do a better job than some teachers these days and I am really smart.

I'm home schooling because i don't believe at such a young age my child should spent the majority of his time stuck in building with 25-30 other kids the same age, sitting down being told what to do, when and how. I think age 4-5 is far too young for formal education. It's the wrong environment and doesn't provide quality support to enable him to learn at his pace in his optimal learning style.

I believe intrinsic motivation and problem solving are the core of learning and public schooling is the complete opposite. As his parent i believe i'm best placed to provide a rich environment full of opportunities best suited to him. Out of school learning removes restrictions that would otherwise prevent him from effective, deep and enjoyable learning. I think homeschooling can nurture his interests and talents as learning is a creative process, not a mechanical linear factory style one that is used in public schools. Subjects are all joined together and can be learnt more effectively at home than in a school system that separates them into little boxes. Home schooling brings flexibility and conditions that support self directed learning, rather than school that diminishes it. I want my son to be an independent thinker, to have support with emotional development and to have a variety of social experiences and physical outlets that cannot happen in the public schooling system. There are many other elements of public schooling that i don't like that don't exist with home schooling.

Teaching is more than just being smart. There are methods and you also have to understand where their brain is at developmentally. Those kinds of things.

I'm aware of that, but the city we are in they are REALLY bad and getting worse. We agreed on public high school for sure, I'm just trying to convince him of the elementary level for homeschooling.

I think there are some really awesome teachers out there. Public schools just aren't the right choice for our family. No teacher knows everything, just as no parent knows everything. You have to just make certain choices based on what is right for your kids, and then be willing to put in the hard work to make it happen.

So if you're going to homeschool to avoid your child being bullied than you obviously can't socialize them at all. I mean you sure as smurf can't bring your kid around other kids.

You are pretty much every bad stereotype there is for homeschooling moms.
