Home school or head start?

posted 27th Jan
I'm not sure what I should do. My DS is 2 1/2; He'll be 3 in August. I just started home schooling him the past couple weeks, mostly because I noticed he started forgetting some of the things he knows, and to give us a little more structure to the day so he can get used to it for school. He is also in Early head start now, which is basically a playgroup that I go to with him 2x a month, and home visits once a week.
I really think a school setting will be better off for him to focus. It will also give him more socialization than the once a week he gets with his cousins/kids at the library, now. But my biggest concern.. will he just be relearning what I've already taught him? I'm not really sure what they teach in pre-school, or what he's supposed to know by kindergarten....? I think he's already ahead of his age group, or at least just more verbal. He's also already potty trained -hasn't had a accident in a couple months- So, it's not a matter of whether he'll be ready for school or not. I just don't want him to end up going and act out because he is ahead. I've heard of kids doing this when they get bored in school. I also don't want his education to be stalled from relearning what he already knows.. Continue Home School or start Head Start in the fall?

Definitely head start for the social aspect. I don't rely on it to teach my kid (I do that) but I can't give him the social skills he will acquire with being around kids his own age and having to listen to a different adult and follow their rules.

Yeah, I really think DS would benefit from following school rules.. Social rules for life!

Until the age of 5, kids learn best through play.

Send him to the Head Start Program...

Exactly. Our rules are a lot different at home. I like he's learning not everything will be like it is at home but it's okay and you still have to listen to the adults and follow directions.

Yeah, I think my son gets tired of being with just his baby sister and me all of the time!

Oh mine did too! I'm not nearly as fun as a room full of 3-5 year olds.
