My other thing about piercing baby ears is that they are so tiny and their ears are so tiny. The post of the ear ring can't be comfortable digging into their little heads when they're laying down!

To each their own. I don't see the need to poke holes in my daughter's body, but if someone else wants to do it to their kid, so be it.

The posts are way shorter, and usually on infants they recommend safety backs, so it's like a ball on the other end instead of point or sharp edge..

Still, it's jabbing into their little heads. Maybe all the babies I have ever seen were weird but their ears were pretty flat to their heads at the bottom of the lobe.

So glad I had a boy!!
But if I had a girl I wouldn't pierce her ears until she asked for it

My personal experience, pierce them while they are young and don't understand. I pierced my DDs ears at 7 months. My niece on the other hand, we waited until she was able to ask for them. She was about 5 when she wanted them. She would ask, we would go, she would cry and chicken out. She finally around 6 or 7 got the courage to do it. Well, she also at this point was old enough to constantly touch them and play with them, thus they got infected, had to be taken out and they closed up... back to square 1 again. She wants them but at this point we see no point. With her, we are just going to wait until she is old enough to take care of them. I much prefer the way we did it with my DD. 7 months old, no problems. Those that say wait until she asks for them bc she may get upset that you put a hole in her body without her consent.... Never ever in my 36 years of living have I ever heard a girl complain that her parents pierced her ears without her consent. I find this argument comical. If they don't want them, they can always take them out. No biggie. They eventually close and they don't really leave a mark or if they do it is minute. It's not a tattoo for Gods sake. But, to each his own is my philosophy. We have done it both ways and in my experience, do it while they are young and don't understand is my opinion.

Well, I can only speak from my experience, and what I've seen with my daughter... the post is very thin, and short, just a tad bit longer than the width of her earlobe... she wore saftey backs, that were about the size of the ball from a dress pin, when she was an infant.

Now she can wear earings all day and we take them out at night because she wears mostly colored mickey heads that match her outfits, which don't come with saftey backs, but I buy rubber backs seperate... if her earlobe is *squished* to her head the post slides forward...

Quoting Michael Westen:" I'm not getting DD's done until she can tell me "Mom, I want my ears pierced." It's an alteration to her body. That's not my choice to make."

Never really thought of it that way, but I would have to agree. I am not big on making alteration. I have my ears pierced once but that is all. No other tattoos, piercings, or alterations to my body.

Quoting crazy coupon lady:" As soon as by law they can get them, so 3 months I think it is. Its not hard to keep earrings clean ... [snip!] ... have been slacking on it, lol and my 4 yr old too. My oldest was just 3 months with hers, and she has 2 holes in each ear now."

So is that birthday present for you or for her?

"Here, darling, let me restrain you while somebody stabs a needle through your ear. Happy birthday!"
