My mom got mine pierced when I was about two or three. Little did she know that I was allergic to nickel. I got the worst infection ever. I actually remember my grandpa holding me in his lap and removing the earrings with pliers. It was horribly painful. Not knowing what your child is allergic to is reason enough for me to not do it.

They do-- this was many, many years ago, obviously lol. But nickel isn't the only thing a child can be allergic to. That's what I'm saying. I can't even wear sterling silver without breaking out. It's not as severe, but it's still bad. You never know.

My husband and I were talking about this yesterday. I want to get my 20 months olds done but we laughed about it cause we may get the first one in but not the second. So we decided we are waiting until she wants them done.

My parents did mine at 3 months, and im not against it but would never do mine that young. I have 2 daughters and they both have their ears pierced, i let them decide when to do it. my oldest chose to get hers when she was about 4, i told her it would hurt a bit and she still wanted it...she did great...and my youngest who is almost 4 now got hers done when she was like 2 and a half...her choice as well. They put the marker dots on her ears and she was like all done, she thought it was the earrings! lol...they did the first one and she screamed... we had to hold her head down for the second cause she didnt want it, but i knew if we didnt do it then that she'd never go back, She screamed for about 20 seconds till we gave her a sucker then all was well. And they healed perfectly fine and she never had any problems   I like to wait till they are old enough to choose.

I'm not getting DD's done until she can tell me "Mom, I want my ears pierced."

It's an alteration to her body. That's not my choice to make.

My mom got my ears pierced when I was just a baby. I have never thought anything of it, I loved having my ears pierced. I would like to get her ears pierced now, but daddy is against it and she hasn't been Vax'd yet so its not exactly a top priority at the moment.

My oldest sister's got infected when a neighbor did her's when she was younger. My mom had no idea the neighbor was piercing my sister's ears. She had to be taken to the hospital to have them removed. Which is why I do hesitate to get my LO done.

I second this... I'm allergic to nickel as well. I had mine done at 3 months with nickel earrings.

Quoting Maria + Cory = Alexis:" Just wondering about getting a infants ear's pierced. Where do you stand on the subject? If you agree, what age would be the best?"

The appropriate age I think would be when they are responsible enough to take care of their own ears and are willingly wanting them done.

i think it looks silly on babies. if she wants her ears pierced one day and be responsible and take care of them, she can have them. i definitely won't get them done and clean them and take care of them when she's young in the hopes that someone else will think they're cute.
