DO not JUDGE me..

So I'm in the methadone clinic for obvious reasons and counsuling as well.I'm trying to get my life back on track because its been one hell of a wrong turn! But anyhow,I was talking to the doctor,I wanted to get weened off the methadone before I had the baby and the doctor will NOT do it!!!! He says that it is very dangerous to me and my child! Now this upsets me because there is obviously a chance the baby can be born addicted and go through withdrawals, but they said they would ween the baby on to morphine if this was to happen.I'm currently on 40mg daily.I'm finally going down the right path and have the right mind set!One day I will be able to wake up healthy and stress free. Is there any other pregnant woman who are or went through this as well.As I said before, please don't judge me. I'm just following doctors orders and this pregnancy was completely unplanned seeing how a year ago I was told I would not be able to conceive any more for personal reasons.

Ugh, that's rough. My dad is an addict. Best of luck on your journey. Just wanting off of it says a lot of good things.

Your doctor is right. Withdrawals would likely put so much stress on he baby that it might not survive. Letting them weane the baby after birth is healthiest. Though the baby will probably be in the NICU for quite a while.

Seriously, I quit meth and cocaine cold turkey the day I found out I was pregnant with my daughter... And never looked back. It's been almost four years I feel like methadone is an "excusable high" . My friend died from going to the clinics mixing it with other things last year. Wish you had more willpower. The doctor is right, its not safe to quit now

Some people cannot do it cold turkey, it's really mean for you to say that she doesn't have enough "willpower".
OP, I have never been in our situation but I truly hope the best for you. What your doctor is saying is true, follow his order.

Thanks. It's just such a crappy feeling. I mean this is like a miracle baby to me..when the doctors told me I wont be able to have kids nomore I was extremely upset because I have to wonderful sons but always wanted a daughter. I now have that oppourtunity and it feels like it came at the wrong time I'm doing my best and begged the doctor but all they did was lower my dose and now they can't lower it or they wont lower it anymore. Now my doctor also informed me that since I'm on such a low dose the baby may not even have withdrawals. He said that there is mothers on way higher doses and their babies had no withdrawals, its kind of like the luck of the draw, which makes no sense to me.

After my sons 2nd surgery at 1 week old, they had to ween him off fentanyl.
And it really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be... he was under 5lbs also.
It took maybe a week for him to wake up fully.
Hang in there doll...

How is it up there on that high horse?
OP, you're wanting tl get better and wanting what's best for your baby says so much. You're on the right path in wanting to live a safe, healthy life. Good luck to you and I hope you can stay with the recovery after you have the baby. I know how hard it is hun.

the fact that you are trying your best to do what's right is what matters. you are absolutely doing what's best for your health and your baby's health in this situation. keep it up and goodluck! and don't let people tell you that you don't have the willpower or want to really quit. getting off this stuff cold turkey would be absolutely terrible for you. you're doing your best.

I think the person who posted about quitting cold turkey has a right to say that. My bf is the same way-he was addicted to meth and heroin etc and quit cold turkey. He has the same feelings that everyone should be able to quit just like that. Now that may not be the case, but his experiences tell him so. Same as the other poster. I for one commend the other poster for being able to quit just like that. That's awesome of her!. Anyways though, good luck OP. I'm glad you are doing what you can to keep your baby safe. just follow the drs. orders. Maybe this is the turning point you need to get healthy.
