My mom

posted 27th Jan
irritates the hell out of me. My dad wants to get healthy. he has BP/cholosterol and weight issues. We were talking about him going to a nutritionist to see about a "diet" to help his bp. Well my mom flipped and was like well he won't even follow it anyways there is no point to having him go to one. Then my dad confessed he needs help being held accountable and feels like he always fails because he is in it alone. My mom then snapped at him that she doesn't need to go on a diet and she isn't going to change her eating habits just because he needs to change his.   Well Daddy-o I guess I'll be bringing you a plate of healthy food every night now.

Idk, Daddy's a big boy and shouldn't need his women to make him food for his health.

That sucks to have no support. And the fact she cares so little about his health, what a wonderful wife.

Its not even making food for him, its the fact he asked for support and he supported her going back to school but she can't support him doing this. And with him working 70 hrs a week I beg to differ. When he isn't getting home till 7 or 8 at night which is easier? Cooking a meal or popping some premade food in the microwave?

It's called marriage. You support your spouse when they need it, especially something that could be life and death. My husband is a big boy and can make him food but as a wife I do it because I love him and care about him. I know this is a spectacular thought to some people. It's certainly no shocker why some people don't do well in relationships these days.

That is absolutely ridiculous!!! EVERYONE needs support in large changes in life. EVERYONE.
I know I sure as hell do. At least his daughter understands that and is willing to take part in it. PLUS what would a little healthy food hurt?
Do you know how hard it is to have to eat broccoli while the person you love can eat a sundae?

Yeaaa and she works in the health field. Like you could see the disappointment in my dad's eyes. he has been on BP meds for over a month now and it isn't helping. He started an exercise routine as soon as he gets up in the morning and yea.   I just feel so bad about him. Like I was obese as a kid and she told me welp you can eat salads instead of whatever the family is eating and you're not allowed to eat junkfood. Like yeaaa.

She definitely shouldn't be putting him down, no. but I think it's pretty ridiculous for you to make him a plate of food to take to him every night.

Agreed!!!   I just...my heart breaks for him.   Monday night I'm making some awesome Chicken with steamed fresh veggies.   I can't wait and he is pretty darn excited to try it.

Or even not having to, but having someone who eats smurf food all the time in the house. I don't HAVE to but I don't because what's the point of making 2-3 different meals just because my husband won't eat it. SOOO guess whose tastes win.. ugh.

He supported my ass for over 18 years....He works 70 hours or more a week. I'm already cooking so what's the harm? Again at 57 yrs of age, working all day and most of the night which is easier junk food or staying up and cooking. Umm duh junk food. That is why he wants support. He is my dad I will support him. Even if that means for the love of jesus christ taking him a plate of food to eat because it is healthy and already there instead of him making an unhealthy choice. To do something like this takes back up support. FFS I hope you never have to make a big life change like this.

I wasn't aware that having your wife or daughter cook you healthy meals is the only way to change your eating habits.

He doesn't need his wife's permission to see a specialist. That's already showing initiative on his part and he should follow through, especially since op is being supportive. But she shouldn't have to make him food and bring it to him because he won't eat healthy if she or his wife don't
