SO won't let me pick him up   He says he "needs to learn to put himself to sleep" "this book says do this" "my friend did this, and now their kid goes to bed by himself"...blah blah blah. We're on night 3, and even though he isn't crying for as long (or as hard) as he did the first night, it still hurts my heart. Believe me, this is a last resort.

It's a book. It's full of great information. After the first few pages I decided I would never let DD cry like that again.

I decided to read it after her idiot pedi told me she would never sleep all night if I didn't let her cry. Yeah. He said that.

She's been sleeping through the night for about a week now. She is almost 19 months old.

If you want to hold you child then go hold your child and tell your SO to shove it. I am pro-cio when it works for the child and the parent.

Tell your SO that your baby is in distress. CIO causes high blood pressure, bad changes in baby's brain, it messes up their intellectual, emotional, and social development, it's harmful to the parent/child relationship, and the only reason the baby eventually falls asleep is because they are so traumatized. There is really nothing good about CIO. It hardly ever works.

Trust me, I know how hard it is, my NINETEEN month old just started sleeping all night a month ago. But you don't need to torture him like that. And yes I really do see it as torture.

I told SO if he's not putting himself to sleep by Monday night, then Tuesday we're going back to doing it my way. So far, it seems to be making a HUGE difference in his sleep schedule...I just hope by Monday night he will no longer cry...I really don't want to go back to the way things were...I just REALLY hate hearing him cry.

he is only 7 months. expecting him to be on a full sleep schedule is non realistic imo

How long is he crying for? Is it hard crying or just like fussing?

I agree.

I'm sorry but I just see CIO as lazy, neglectful parenting. Some babies don't sleep all night until they are 2 or 3.
