transitioning from breast to bottle

posted 26th Jan
for all the breastfeeding moms, when did you introduce bottles to your LO? was there a problem at first? How did you handle it and is there problems now going back and forth?

Unless you're switching to formula or have to pump for work you don't need to introduce a bottle. Can you exclusive ly breastfeed or is that not an option?

We introduced it at about 3 weeks. He's perfectly fine going back and forth, but he very rarely takes the bottle from me. He'll start and then look at and me spit it out because he knows I got the goods.

I can exclusively breastfeed BUT I was hoping to have a break at least once a day where daddy could feed her so mommy coul get some extra sleep.

I talked to my doctor and I'm showing signs of PPD and being the only one who can feed her is taking its toll on me so I'm trying everything to avoid feeling like I need medication.

I'd be using breastmilk, no formula! I've been pumping religiously and saving up since LO was born last month

I am sorry you are having a hard time   how old is your LO? I would suggest trying the breastflow bottle for him to try.

Well I had to supplement from birth with my son, so I'd say the earlier the better. He did fine going back and forth. Good luck.

we combo fed the first week with NO problems. Then, I decided to stop being wishy washy and went EBF full force. Well, I returned to work at 4 weeks (he's now 12 weeks) and he refused the bottle. Mike has to syringe feed him, and I have tried several different bottles, different people, different locations, everything we can think of. Declan DID take 3 oz out of a Dr Browns last night so I was super psyched, but he refused the bottle again today. I'm no help, but I sincerely wish you luck

she's 5 weeks today   I wanted to wait at least a month. I'm just worried it might mess her latch up as well because I worked so hard with her for 3 weeks until it was pain free and I have NO desire to experience that again lol

poor baby depends on me for everything and if get me exhausted to the point I get mad at her   only on the nights she refuses to sleep and just wants to eat eat eat

You can always stop if it does. My DD's latch got messed up for a while and it got better again. The baby might need some coaxing to take the bottle. Have someone try while you are not in the house and wait till baby is hungry. you may need to tease by pushing down and pulling out on his tongue, like the nipple is slipping from his mouth, instinct makes them such it back in. I hope it helps   PPD is horrible. Do exactly what you need to take care of yourself! That is sooo important.

3 weeks because I started classes when she was 4 weeks. She transitions back and forth as long as I'm not the one feeding her a bottle. The one time I fed her a bottle, and then nursed her, she was frustrated because she had to work harder.
