breast feeding...

posted 26th Jan
Ok ladies, here's the question. Would you breast feed your new born in front of your 5 y/o daughter? I breast fed with her, and plan to to it with this one but I just don't know if she/I'm ready for all the questions she's going to have with her seeing that? Also keep in mind my lil girl think's the baby is going to come out of my belly button! lol

Yeah, 100%. There's no reason I see that I wouldn't. Just prepare yourself for the questions is all. She can even nurse her baby doll if she wants.

Of course I would.

What's so hard about teaching your child the right thing? Breasts are made for providing nutrition to babies. It's something more kids SHOULD be taught.

Yea. My daughter used to breastfeed her baby dolls. It was no biggie at all.

My 3.5 year old thinks the baby is my belly button.. why wouldnt you breastfeed? It's the most natural thing, I can't wait for my son to someday have a wife and encourage her to breastfeed because he watched his baby sister be nursed.

I think if you're comfortable with it then do it. If not, then don't. Either way the 5 year old would probably ask questions about it, so you'll have to explain regardless.

Yes. They're boobs. She won't be scarred for life if she sees them doing what nature made them for.

Yes, i think it's important for children to grow up around breastfeeding (and all other good parenting and normal aspects of day to day life) so that they understand it.

It's the lack of people breastfeeding that adds to the huge lack of knowledge, confidence and support in new moms and the diar breastfeeding rates the west have. Women no longer grow up around bfing, they have no idea what to expect and often struggle or give up as a result.

A lot of young kids won't even bat an eye if you breastfeed infront of them. They don't have societies smurfed up views on things yet. My niece was hardly interested at all when i BF my son openly whilst sitting and talking to her (there's 6 yrs between them).

I would. When I have another baby, I'll BF in front of DD and tell her all about it. I've had a friend use my BFing to show her young daughters how babies are fed, and it didn't bother me. I was happy to help her show her kids that BFing is normal.

I personally would. First off, you have a daughter, not a son so it's a lot different lol. I BF infront of my mom ALL the time.

Why is it different for a Son? Not doing it in front of a Son, but doing so in front of a Daughter is part of society's problem with BF. It's teaching them to view breasts as only sexual objects, when their purpose is to provide nutrition.

How is it different and why is it funny?

My son breastfeeds, is there something wrong with that that i don't know about?

Thx ladies! I am a huge supporter on breast feeding, just didn't know what to expect or how to handle the questions I suppose....My mother breast fed all of us (there's 4 of us) but that was over 27 years ago (I'm the youngest) so all my info came from my older sister. If it wasn't for her idk what I would have done! She taught me everything! Just didn't know what to think with this one being my second how I'm going to feel about the questions, but hearing some of your thoughts I think I'm just going to go ahead and start explaining it to her now. Oh and I've never heard of the whole them "feeding their babies" before.
