re: A rant about labour pain conversations

posted 27th Jan
The next time I hear a man say that, I'm going to tell him to stay with me the next time I'm pregnant and in labor. Every time I have a contraction, I'll kick, punch, hit, etc. him in the balls or have someone do it for me (a female who has given birth, naturally). I'll also have someone squeeze his balls as tightly as possible while I'm pushing.   I think that would make the comparisons a bit more equal.

I'm sorry, but men are babies when it comes to pain. I walked around on a broken foot for a full month before I decided to go to the doctor because it didn't hurt that bad. My husband broke his pinky toe and whined like a little girl for a week. I really don't think men have the same capacity as most women to handle pain. Or, any type of uncomfortable feeling, for that matter.

On that same note, I had natural childbirth and a miscarriage at around 12 weeks unmedicated (which actually hurt worse then my 35 weeker) and I really don't think that it was as bad as some women make it out to be. Not trying to sound insulting, but I do think some women are a bit over the top. Don't get me wrong, it hurts, but it wasn't something I just absolutely couldn't stand. Of course, I've got a really large pain tolerance since I'm a klutz and I break bones and injure myself like its a hobby. I'm kind of an insensitive just-deal-with-it-and-shut-up type person sometimes. In that respect, I need to learn a little empathy.

I don't know.. I think getting kicked in the balls probably does hurt more. I had two, one vaginaly and one c-section.. niether really "hurt" to be honest lol. I guess it's different for everyone but I personally don't think labor and giving birth are painful.. uncomfortable sure, but it isn't painful.

And you did this naturally? No drugs whatsoever?

No, for the c-section I was put to sleep and then woke up with the working epidural (It's didn't take and they didn't have time to make it work as it was an emergency section so they masked me instead) I mean the recovery, sure I was sore.. but it wasn't THAT bad. As for the vaginal birth and the labor/contractions.. They were uncomfortable.. but I didn't find it painful. It was managable. I just went with it, breathed through the contractions, often laughing/talking during them. I couldn't truthfully tell a man that labor/child birth is beyond painful because "to me" it wasn't. The soreness for the weeks to follow the vaginal birth hurt more than the actual birth lol. Again, I'm sure it's different for everyone. Maybe, it is painful for some other people.. but one of the first things I has said to SO afterwords was "That wasn't bad at all, I want to do it again" lol. I found the whole experience beyond amazing and really enjoyed it.. maybe I just had a different frame of mind, I'm not really sure why I didn't find it to be painful. A few friends all say the same things.. my bestfriend says having her gall ball bladder removed hurt WAY more then giving birth naturally to her twins. So it's not just me lol

I have PCOS, now don't get me started on the period cramps I get..I would rather go through labor every month. THOSE contractions freaking hurt (the period one) labor was nothing compared to them I found.. that might be why i didn't find them bad.

Me, too. Especially when you have a cyst and it bursts. It was enough to make me puke. My 18 year old niece just got diagnosed with it and I'm very sad for her.

I don't claim labour is THE most painful pain on Earth. I just hate it when it becomes a 'pain contest'.
