Then you need to take that into account.

That being said, he needs to be more sensitive to your feelings. Laughing at them doesn't make anything better.

I would calmly talk to him and make sure he understands its an important conversation to you, and let him know that you understand that he thinks its silly, but that it's something that's really bothering you, even though you wish it didn't.
