I think that maybe being in a place where the staff are obviously more pushy with epidurals is whats making her uncomfortable. I would be uncomfortable with the idea of you have to do it now of else kinda idea.
I think most women who chose natural birth will have weak moments I know I did, If I also had a unsupportive staff at my hospital Im sure I would have ended up with a epi and probably pitocin and then of course a c-section. You are right they cant "force you" but they can push you into it..

I had a weak moment. The nurses were even pushing for me not to get the epi. I wish I would have listened because I probably would have had Audrianna within the hour.

A friend of mine did that. Our hospital doesn't support water births - but she had one anyway lol.

Yep. I plan to put my foot down this time and talk with my midwife about everything since she will be the one delivering not a doctor. So I hope it goes better then last time.

You should check with some home birth midwives because a lot of them take insurance and usually you can persuade your insurance company. Midwives also are willing to setup payment plans are generally just a lot cheaper than birthing centers.

I just had one and it was totally worth it. No epidurals to tempt me either. :-)

Has he seen videos on home births?
If not I would make him watch them, my DH read Ina Mays Guide to Child Birth with me. He also watched Business of being born with me.
And recently we watched More on the Business of being born together.
He was really scared about the idea before we read books and watched videos but now after having are Lo in a hospital and now thinking about having a 2014 baby we know we will choose a homebirth.

I'm wishing you lots of luck! I didn't say that to scare you just so you didn't think it would go pitch perfect.   Seriously with A I couldn't of asked for better nurses. They helped push me in the correct direction. one nurse was even pushing me not to get the epi like I had said I didn't want. She kept telling me I could do it but BD being an ass finally got me to cave in to getting one.

lol how on earth did that work? did they get in trouble? I could see the insurance company getting so fking mad at the hospital staff an the midwife that delivered the baby.

You should have your husband talk to a dad who has been involved in home birth. Not sure about his fears, but my husband was worried about the mess. The midwife's assistant cleaned up, she didn't just leave it there for us to deal with or anything like that.

The other worry was what if I need medical attention. My husband got to talk to the mdiwife about that stuff and felt way better afterward.

Also have him read this. :-)

my sil had a horrible natural birth experience and he is basing it off of that. she ended up having a c-section at the hospital hours later but then again it was her first the midwife said the baby was turned wrong and the doctor said she had a large tailbone and would never be able to have a natural birth :/ I may even get a midwife to come over and talk to him about it.

Nope, she didn't get in trouble at all, her insurance still covered it. I mean really - what CAN they do about it.. it's not like they were calling security on her while she was pushing out a baby lol. She straight up refused to get out because she was in too much pain to move.

She was the first water birth ever in our hospital lol.

Her midwife thought it was great.

i say don't get out and just say it's an accident. if they can't catch the baby, because the position is awkward just catch it yourself. ;-) I just watched a really cool video called Birth As We Know It at a birth conference - all of the women were assisted but caught their own babies. You should check it out. Really cool video for sure.

That rarely happens. It happened to one of the moms that my midwife delivered (around the same time) and they turned out just fine - usually they do. They simply drove her to the hospital to get a c-section. It wasn't a difficult process.
