What time does your 2-5 year old go to sleep?
posted 26th Jan
I have a 3 1/2 year old who goes to bed between 10:30-11 pm. We wake up at about 8 am and I am a SAHM with a 6 month old as well so it's really hard for me to wake up at the crack of dawn with my kids. I just want both of them to go to bed at a reasonable hour but nothing works. Any tips if your kids go to bed earlier than 9??

My 3 1/2 year old goes at 8 or 9. He's never given me any trouble. But I can't get my 7 month old to go to bed earlier than 10.

My son will be 5 in May. He goes to sleep at 730 every night. It was a battle with him for about a month before he realized that I wasn't going to back down. We decorated his bed with Christmas lights since a nightlight wasnt bright enough by his standards and I let him pick out his own bedding set & a favorite stuffed animal to sleep with.

I think you just have to be willing to wake up early with them. I put my 3 year old to sleep around 830-9pm, but I work first shift so I wake her up around 630-7am. On the weekends I let her sleep in a little with me, but not too long..I make sure we get up before 9am or before and make breakfast. She's used to it now.

Try moving bedtime back by 30 minute increments every week till you get to a time that works.

Routine!
Our 21mo is in bed by 7.30-8pm..
Dinner, bath, cartoons, ipad if hes lucky, kiss daddy, find paci, bottle, teeth brushed, bed.
Every night.
Cartoons/ipad are wind down time - he sits on his little fold out sofa with his blankey & pillow.
I never have any issues.
To make bed time fun we have glow in the dark stars on his roof, to get him off the ipad or to turn the tv off if hes being stubborn i say 'where are your stars honey?! show mummy!!' he turns them off & will rush to his room after giving daddy a kiss

What is a good wake up time to get my kids to go to bed at 8:30?

I wish I had some tips lol! My 4yr old gets put in bed at 830p but he doesn't usually fall asleep before 1030, sometimes he will even be awake until midnight. And then I'm usually awake until around 1230 wirh my 2month old. Mostly I just try to keep the bedtime routines consistent...sometimes it works.

I would say about 7am if they take naps or 8am if they don't.

Okay so I don't feel so bad. I read that you should put an infant to bed at around 7:00. Yeah, right. DS is not having that lol.

It depends if DS has napped or not. We don't need to be anywhere in the morning so we sleep when we need to and get up when we've had enough sleep. sleeping from 10pm till 10am is fine with me Clock times don't matter here, just that he's been awake for long enough in the day so his body knows it's bedtime and not naptime when he falls asleep.
When he was 2 he needed to be awake for 4 hours before his nap and 6 hours after his nap. I'm a SAHM so i don't stress about the clock, just that our sleep needs are met and it doesn't impact on the things we like to do. With a baby they sleep whenever they need to in my house; teething, illness, new foods, developmental leaps, cognitive spurts, milestones.. these all affect sleep, and growth spurts, so there is no way i'd be able to set a certain bedtime.

DS (5 1/2) and DD (1 1/2ish) are both in bed by 7:30. Except on weekends, then DS gets to stay up a bit later. But my kids also just like sleep, they're pretty good sleepers lol

8 am is not the crack of dawn! LOL
My 2 & 3 year old sleep from 7:45pm-9 or 9:30 am
My 6 month old twins sleep from 8pm-7 or 7:30am.
