Do you mommies keep your babies on a feeding schedule?

posted 7th Jun
Do you guys make your babies wait a certain amount of time before you feed them? My little guy is 6 weeks and I've been trying to make him wait about 3 hours. Is this cruel? Should I just feed him when he want to eat?

I always feed Tait whenever he's hungry, wether it's 4 hours or 40 mintues. But people also think he's overweight....

I dont think it's cruel, If you want him on a schedule for your own sanity, do it that way

Nope, Will's always been an "eat on demand" kind of guy.

at that early i would feed him on demand. soon he will set his own schedule..well at least thats what Sophia did. The first couple months of her life i swear i was feeding her all day long it seemed like. Now at 8 months she eats 5 5 oz bottles and has been doing this since about 5 months now! Give it time.

At that age doctors say a schedule isn't important. There is no way to tell them 'No, it's not time to eat' therefore you sort of have to feed them when they think they're hungry. I don't think it makes a lot of sense to let them cry when you're not sure if they're actually having hunger pains or not..but it's up to you because it's your child. Talk to his doctor.

I agree, Will pretty much set himself on a really predictable schedule eventually.

When my daughter was first born i kept her on a schdule. It lasted about a week. Then i jsut fed her when she cried for food. I jsut usually estimated if it was around 3 hours since her last feeding then i'd give her one. But if your baby is colicy(sp) then u should keep them on a schedule. You know your baby better than anyone. If you feel it's about time for your baby to be hungry then make 'em a bottle. If you're comfortable with the schedule then keep it.

Aidan's been on a 4 hour feeding schedule since we left the hospital... there are times when he throws it for a loop and times when he'll eat maybe a half hour earlier but for the most part its always been every 4 hours except at night when he usually sleeps from about 9:30-5:30.... he pretty much set it himself too. There will be times when he's supposed to eat at like 2 o'clock and sure enough it'll be like 1:58 and he'll be getting fussy and eating his fingers... but for right now it's 6 ozs every 4 hours... well 7 ozs more than 6 now...

I feed him when he's hungry.. But he gets hungry pretty regular at exactly 2 hours. I figure while he is still young and doesn't know better I will feed him while hungry, when he gets older and on solid foods,.. i'll give him more of a routine

Girl, if the baby is hungry then feed him. He'll let you know when he is ready to eat.

That's funny that you would say that. People say the same thing about my ds, Ryver that he's fat, he needs to go on a diet, he needs to skip a few meals but I tell them that he's HEALTHY!!! He's on a 3-4 hr schedule and has been for about 4-6 mo. When he was a newborn I fed him whenever he was hungry...wether it was every three hrs or every hr. I just try not to get to that "starving" point where I couldn't make a bottle fast enough or heat his food quick enough.

I try to get him on one but if hes hungry I feed him. So he kind of made his own over time and now we try to stick to it.
