breastfeeding and formular topups

my baby lost alot of weight so my midwives told me to give formular topups after feeding him from me and pumping after to encourage my milk (i manage on average 20mls).the good news is that he is now just over is birth weight but will i ever be able to just breastfeed? as i worry that if i stop the formular he'll lose the weight again help!
i want to breastfeed so much but this is starting to take over my life  

Do you feed on demand?

yeah i do, he feeds from me for usually about 20mins, then i give him my expressed milk then the formular

Have you considered maybe switching up your diet.. Also, cluster feeding?

Adding more proteins and whatnot

If he gets full from your breastmilk, he'll refuse the bottle. So then you would know you can get rid of the top-ups.
