What would you do?

I had a bumper in DS's crib, but i woke up and he was all wrapped up and tangled in it...so I took it off, today as i put him down for a nap, i left the room and about 10 minutes late he started screaming like mad. his leg had slipped through one of the bars and gotten stuck around his thigh and his little fat rolls, eventually i was able to get him unstuck...after many tears from both me and him.
I don't want him to wind up breaking his leg in the bars...but I don't want him to suffocate either >.>

so what would you do? put the bumper back on, or just leave it and hope it doesn't happen again?

Bumper back on. Try to either add more attachments to the crib so he's not able to get tangled again, or buy a new one.

I would get a mesh bumper. They have them for like 10 bucks at walmart I think. My daughter used to get her legs stuck in the bars too, and scare the hell out of me.

i would put the bumper back on and very tightly tie it to the crib. both of my boys have the bumpers in their cribs and ive never had an issue of it coming off but i have had an issue of my older son getting his leg caught in the bars and it was a horrible experience

Really? Broken leg or dead baby? Not a difficult choice here. Leave the damn thing off, I don't even know why they sell those death traps anymore. And if he gets stuck again, try baby oil. Messy, but effective.

Maybe try "lacing" the bumper between the bars half way.

it happened once before but SO was home, so we were able to work together to get him out.. today I'm home alone.
when he had the bumper on, im not sure how he managed to get tangled, it was almost like he was trying to climb it or something. on one side of his body; his arm and leg were on the opposite side of the bumper, and the rest of him was in bed

i was by myself when my son got his leg stuck and i was crying hysterically when trying to get it unstuck thankfully he wasnt hurt but he was pretty upset.how old is your son? ive just never had issues with the crib bumper but i think if my son was tangled in it id probably go buy one of those breathable ones

I would leave it off. All the health care nurses I have talked to said the same thing too, as well as baby books i've read.
