Anterior placenta?

posted 26th Jan
I've been told that I have an anterior placenta. My OB and NP have both had issues finding the baby's heartbeat with the doppler because of it and it just took me about 10 minutes to find it. I've read that's common, and it's also common to feel the baby later. If you had an anterior placenta, when did you feel the baby move? Did it effect your pregnancy at all?

I didn't really feel him move until about 18 wks with the anterior placenta. =( so really glad I had the doppler to check up on him. Other than it taking the OB forever to find the HB at my appointments there weren't really any issues.

Okay, thanks. Yeah, it takes me forever to find the heartbeat and it freaks me out. My NP almost sent me for an u/s the other day, because she just couldn't find it.

I felt flutters here and there.. but didn't feel definite movement until after 30 weeks. Sometimes I would get worried that something was wrong with the baby since I barely felt movement.. but my ob always reassured me that she was ok and said "imagine the baby trying to kick through a pillow"

I had one with Rory and almost never felt solid movements. I didn't feel anything strong ever. I was never woken up, never really disturbed by him. Couldn't really do kick counts. Only thing I ever really felt was hiccups and those were WAY low like down in my vag lol

ETA: And he was HUUUUGE. Came out at 9.7lbs

First I felt @ 21 weeks and second 18 weeks both times I had anterior placentas. I am a belly sleeper >.< I wonder if that is why it always attaches in the front.

Hmm that's interesting. I slept on my stomach with my most recent pregnancy and had an anterior placenta but with my first I slept on my back and didnt.

with both my boys i had anterior placenta, this time mine is "low". i didnt have any issues with my pregnancy that were related to placenta positioning... with my boys i felt movement at 18 weeks with the first.. and outside movement at 20wks.. with my second i felt "flips" at 16 weeks & then felt definitive movements at 19 weeks. and outside movements at 22wks. but my 2nd boy was NOT a mover at all...

Honestly, i felt baby move at around 12 weeks even with the anterior placenta.

His movements were just much softer & not as sharp/jabby then when i was pregnant with my eldest DS, i didn't get the awful hard jabs etc, it was more cushioned. It was actually really nice lol!

And yes, the heartbeat was much harder to find, im not sure if that has anything to do with my uterus being retroverted as well or only because of the placenta?
