Cold or flu?

A few days ago my son started sounding hoarse with a tiny cough. I kept him home two days from preschool because I knew other kids were sick. I was hoping if he rested he could fight it off. Well he's been getting a runny nose & coughing more. He has a thing with nasal drainage that it bothers him so much he just throws up. Any ways today he woke up with a fever, I made him go potty and he told me he was dizzy and then started throwing up.  Can it be the flu again?! He's already had two 7 day flu bugs in 3 months. They were such bad episodes of vomiting everything that the doctors were started to suspect cyclic vomiting.

It's possible that it's the flu again. There are a lot of strains of it floating around out there.

Ugg. Next year I'm getting him the flu shot.

Flu shot probably won't do much. It only contains 3 strains of Influenza, and there are over 150 of them. But if you think it will help, more power to you. Just keep the little guy hydrated the best you can. Pedialyte or diluted Gatorade.

The flu shot does not protect against the stomach "flu", just for future reference. It could be the nasal drainage causing him to vomit, if he's sensitive to that. I'd keep an eye on the fever, push fluids (maybe those Pedialyte popsicles) and take him in if the vomiting doesn't subside after 24 hours.
