I was that way, and worried too, I thought for sure my lo was going to be born a premie. At the gender scan I was already contracting. Long story short my lo was born at 39 weeks. Best thing to do is listen to your body, rest or sit and take a break when your body says to and drink plenty of fluids. Other then that you should be fine :-)

that was the vague diagnosis I got for why I can't get to forty weeks ever, and why I had preterm labor with three of my kids, two which couldn't be stopped. just take it easy and stay hydrated and make sure you time contractions if you're getting more than six an hour

I've never heard of this used as a medical term o.o and aww, your due date is the same day that my SO goes back to school! Lol

During pregnancy my uterus would cramp when I would be thirsty, dehydrated or need water. I was told that's normal though.....so I don't know. Drink more water? If you don't like water by itself like my gf, try crystal light singles in a glass of water   they have lots of different fun flavors like strawberry kiwi, fruit punch, lemonade, grape, orange, etc.

I had an irritable uterus with all three of my kids and there's nothing really to do for it. It makes your uterus more prone to contracting (not effective labour contractions though) at the littlest bit of stimuli like dehydration, sex, over-exertion, etc. Later in pregnancy, when it acts up it can look and feel exactly like real labour but it has no effect on your cervix so in 97% of cases you are at absolutely no increased risk of preterm delivery. However, in 3% of cases and irritable uterus can turn in to real labour but the only way to know that is to go in and get a vaginal exam since it will even look on the monitors like it's real labour. Do you know if you have a retroverted uterus? The incident's of those with a retroverted or tipped uterus getting an irritable uterus seems to be pretty significant.

hmm. my uterus is tilted, maybe that's why I had it.

I had it. I made a lot of visits to L&D after I went into preterm labor, thinking I was having contractions. I ended up having her at 39 weeks. I learned that if I felt it in my hip(s), more than likely it was irritable uterus and not contractions.

mine too, and like you I was also one of the 3% for whom the irritable uterus turns into real labor

I have irritable uterus and incompetent cervix... for me having IU is bad because when i contract i dilate and thin... if you don't have cervix issues too then contracting may not mean much... if it seems like its causing you to dilate/efface, ect. that's generally when doctors will do something to stop it...i've been on terbutiline, procardia, indocin/indomethacin, & magnesium sulfate so stop my contractions.. half the time it doesn't work for me because my uterus is overly sensitive & i will actually go into labor when i contract.

My first baby was deemed a IUFD partially due to acute chorionitus and IC.
my second baby was almost born at 24, 27 wks but held off until 33wks.

they put me on procardia and I guess forgot that I have heart issues with very low blood pressure. thank goodness I was in a hospital. the terbutlaline made me itch. ugh.
