5 month old won't sleep on her own!!

posted 26th Jan
I have a 5 month old daughter and we have her sleeping in a bassinet with us in our room, but every time we try to give her a nap or try to lay her down for bed in her crib she throws a fit! She even goes as far as wanting me to breast feed her to lull her to sleep. Is this normal or is there a deeper problem as to why she won't sleep on her own or go into her crib?

Hmm I would usually rock my 5 month old to sleep, or if it were feeding time, feed her before bed...she's still so little. I don't see it as a problem..

This is normal a lot of babies do not sleep in cribs. They want to be close to you. They don't understand that when you put them in a crib that you are only in the other room. To them you are gone and they are all alone and can get scared wanting to nurse and things to know you are still around.

I can't tell you what will be best for your family but for us it was co sleeping because our LO would not sleep alone...ever... not even in a bassinet.

Do you have the crib in your room? If you really want your LO to sleep in the crib you might try putting the crib next to your bed and using in like you do the bassinet until your LO gets use to the crib

Sometimes she won't even go in her bassinet so we have to co sleep with her. I'm glad it's a natural thing for her instead of it being a major issue. Thanks for the advice! I'll keep trying to put her in the bassinet.

My LO is 3 months and she usually won't go to sleep on her own, I lay her on my chest and pat her back till she falls asleep everynight. She won't just fall asleep in her own in her crib. She will in the swing, but that's the only way without me personally comforting her. I don't think it's a problem, I enjoy it. And when I lay her on my chest and give her a kiss then her paci she is usually out in a minute or less.
Your LO is still little and just wants to be comforted and know your there while going to sleep, I think it's fine.

I enjoy it, I just wanted to know if it was a problem. She's my first so I don't know much about their sleeping patterns and how they like to go to sleep, etc. I'm just learning new things as I go along lol

It's totally normal.

They're brand new to the world, barely know a thing about it, and are completely defenseless. Sometimes they need someone there to know they are safe.
