Any mommas in the Dallas, Texas area?

posted 26th Jan
I'm moving from Orange beach, Alabama to Garland, Texas. I'm 28 weeks and I'm having to cancel everything and start all over again. I know wic will transfer but I'm having to reapply for Medicaid as soon as I get there. I know nothing about the area and have only been there once when I was visiting my boyfriend's parents for the holidays. I've read many reviews about the hospitals and I'm very worried about having one of those terrible experiences. I'm looking for some feed back on doctors, Medicaid, hospitals and ect. My boyfriend makes fun of me because I worry about the things I've read online but how else do you learn but from others past experiences? This is my first pregnancy and moving completely away from everything and everyone I know is kinda worrisome. I hope to hear from some of you, I don't know anyone in the area to talk to. I'm kinda excited because its a lot more populated than what I'm used to. Please help!

I'm closer to the fort worth area, but the Medicaid is pretty good. Just make sure you find a doctor before you choose your Medicaid.

Like my ob only takes Amerigroup, so had I chosen a different 'plan' I wouldn't have been able to see him.

I live in a suburb of DFW. I love it here... I loved my hospital, love my OB, but it's closer to Ft. Worth than Dallas. I have lots of friends who have delivered in Dallas and have had fabulous experiences. Keep in mind that most people who write reviews online have negative things to say because people who have had great experiences don't feel the need to take the time and write a review.

This is for the Baylor hospital in Garland. Baylor is a great hospital.

Ive read Baylor is one of the best places to give birth in Dallas but I've also heard Baylor doesn't accept Medicaid and its my only option. I've tried to research doctors in the area that accept Medicaid with little to no luck. Id prefer a hospital like Baylor. I couldn't imagine the anxiety of having a baby at Presbyterian and something going wrong and her being flown to Parkland. I'd prefer to have all resources right there.

Are you going to be living IN Dallas or in the area?

In Garland. Which I prefer not to go to Parkland because my boyfriends ex's mother is head nurse in labor and delivery and I'm currently having problems with her stalking us. Its weird but I'd rather not go there.

Where did you read that Baylor doesn't take Medicaid?? About a year ago, I took my son to Baylor Grapevine's ER and they took his CHIP no problem... it's one of the biggest hospitals in the metroplex... I can't believe they wouldn't accept medicaid??

ETA: Here's a link. If you scroll down it says that they accept something called the "Parkland Community Health Program" which, I'm not sure what that is, but it's classified as medicaid. I'd call the hospital and figure out what your options are.

I read the information off a review. Ha. I appreciate your link and all the feed back. I read about a Robert White who accepted Medicaid and delivered at Baylor but I also read its the hospital that wouldn't accept it and you would receive two different bills. One from the doc and one from the hospital. I also read it was under special circumstances and the doctor is 74 years old. Not that there's anything wrong with it. But he's like 10 years older than my grandfather and I just might be a little crepes out by it.

You will always receive a bill from the hospital and a bill from the doctor. You pay your DR for their service then you pay the hospital for the equipment, nurses, etc etc etc. Usually with maternity you pay the DR first, though, even before you deliver so you shouldn't get a bill from them. It's just important to make sure that your Dr accepts Medicaid as well as the hospital. .

Also- I've heard good things about Dallas Methodist, too, and they have a level three NICU, so that's also an option.   Good luck mama.

Thank you. I'm still in Alabama and all the research I seem to be doing is useless. I just didn't want to make the same mistake I made with picking my first doctor. He's really short with me and seems to run out of the room every visit. I want to feel somewhat of a connection. I know it will be easier when I get there. I was just hoping for personal experiences. I hope to take a tour of the hospital and interview the next doctor before I just settle.

If you want, I can ask some of my friends who their doctors were and see if I can get some good referrals?

So far, a friend of mine says that Dr. Elizabeth Stevensen at Park Lane OBGYN is amazing. She absolutely loved her and said that she spent tons of time with her and answered all her questions. She delivers at Baylor Dallas. It doesn't say what insurance they accept, so I'd just call and ask, but most practices that are under major hospitals or corporations like that accept some form of medicaid.
