really worried I've made wrong decision!!

I went for my 12 week scan yesterday and baby was there and heart beat was strong, but I turned down nuchal scan for Downs (i wouldn't terminate even if baby was Down's) But now looking at my scan I can see translucent fluid down the back of my baby and am beginning to panic that I should have had test.
Would my consultant have said something even though I turned down test if they spotted something? or would they not because I turned down test?

I don't know. But if you plan on keeping the baby regardless, I would opt out of additional testing, too. Unless you just want to be prepared for when the baby comes.

could you go back in and get the scan

i think it's a personal decision, but my son had issues that they thought could be pointing to down's and they asked if i wanted to do the scan and i chose not to. anyways, point being when they thought there might be something wrong they did mention it and say i could do the scan

The fluid is normal - at 12 weeks (and later) they measure it. The scan is just an additional option, I only did blood tests for my son, and with my daughter, she's got the top end of the measurement (just enough to make them concerned), so they did another blood test that was more inclusive, and no risks! If they were truly worried about it, you would have talked to a genetic counselor AND the doc at the ultrasound, and they would let you know. I have another scan in 2 weeks for a fetal heart echo, because of the fluid measurement, they're concerned about a heart defect. Trust me, they wouldn't keep something like that from you - the 12 week scan is something they offer everyone, and its usually low-risk. Keep strong, I'm sure your baby will be amazing <3

the sonographer wouldnt there not allowed too. but your ob/gyn would tell you if there was something to be concerned about, i wouldnt worry everyone gets asked if they would like the down's test. my insurance didnt cover the 12 week nuchal scan.. i got the blood test done around 18 weeks or so i cnt remember which week it was..

I think they might have told you if they seen anything, but the test sometimes is wrong i heard there are actually alot of false positives.
I was never asked but i figured they would have told me when i got my anamoty scan and i was informed everything was perferct. She was growing right and right where she needed to be for as far as i was.

Thank you to everyone who has replied. I'm just going to try and not stress till my 20 week scan. It would not matter if baby was down's it would be loved the same and really there is nothing I could do different for preparing for arrival baby would still need the same things!! Thank you

I denied it with both of my pregnancies. Those tests are NOT 100% accurate and I would kept my babys as well. At your anatomy scan they can give you a pretty good idea if there is anything wrong. So if you plan on keeping baby any ways dont worry or stress about it.
