No dialation or effacement at 38.5? Anyone else?

posted 26th Jan
Any ladies on here 38.5 weeks and find out that they have no labor progression what so ever? My next appointment is Thursday and if he has not come on his own they want to talk about induction. After last week hearing I was going to have a c-section because he was breech, that fact that I even get a chance to have him naturally whether by induction or not is perfectly fine with me. So what happened to you birth story if you were not at all progressed this late in the game? I mean none what so ever, cervix does feel any mushier and no dialation? Did you end up going into labor by yourself, induction? Emergency c-section or ?

I had very very little progression. I was 39 weeks and only a fingertip dilated & 40% effaced. I was given a bishop score of 3, which meant I had an 85% chance of a failed induction and most likely would have to have a c-section. I was induced at 39 weeks. My induction lasted 45 1/2 hours. Very long, VERY painful. Every contraction my sons heartrate dropped drastically, but I'm a fighter & so is he. Ended in a successful vaginal birth.

My doctor doesn't even check for progress before you're in active labor. You could be dilated to 3 for weeks or not have any progress until labor starts and still have a natural birth. It makes no difference. I wouldn't agree to an induction just because you're not dilated a week and half before your due date, that's just silly.

ETA: your due date is an estimation and you could naturally go into labor at 42 (like i did with my son) weeks, there is really no reason to induce in your situation.

He said if I was dialated at all or my cervix was thinning it would be favorable condition for induction but he is not even engaged as of two days ago. Luckily I think that may have changed as of yesterday I have quite a bit more pressure down there then I have had this entire pregnancy. He told me that walking, sex and excercise in general is great if you have at least started progressing but it wont help unless I have actually started progressing into labor. Which according to him I have not. Good luck to you, it sounds like you'll be great. Just praying by Thursday we have an engaged head and even a little thinning or 1cm dialated would be great.

Dilation and effacement have no correlation to when you'll go into labor. So I wouldn't even mind it.

The only 2 times I was checked before my induction at 39 and 40wks I was barely a fingertip dilated and barely effaced. The last time I was checked was 3 days prior to my induction when I got there I was 3cm and 100% effaced. I was induced due to GD which I regret doing in the first place if I were you I'd tell the OB no you want to wait until 41wks before talking about induction.

Dilation and thinning have nothing to do with when you'll go into labor. You haven't even reached your EDD yet.

My doctor does not induce until after 40 weeks I get checked again at my 40 week appointment and if still nothing they will talk about induction and silly or not I said no way to induction this entire pregnancy and last week when told I was probably going to have a c-section I felt pretty crappy that I would not even consider a little medical help what so ever before hand. Now he is back head down and I at least get to try and have him vaginally. Either way I would just like to know if anyone had similar experiences. I will do what I feel is best for both of us

If you get an induction you are at higher risk for c section.... this is your first pregnancy so you are most likely to go overdue.

My youngest son was breech until he was born. I was induced with my oldest... and since he wasnt born 10 hours later they wanted to csection me....

my doctor induced me at 39w 4d with no dialation or effacement but told me that i may end up having a c section. 12 hrs of cervadil and he said i was barely 1/2cm dialated and not softening. they started petocin and bumped it up 3 different times as soon as i hit 2 cm i had to get an epidural because i was in so much pain from petocin. at 24 hrs i was 6cm dialated and softening some. i had my little girl at the 29 hr mark.

walking, sex, fresh pinapple, none of it worked for me. i had braxton hicks all the time but he told me that there was no way i would have delievered that baby without medical help, my body just wasnt working. she was 8 lb 4 oz and 21.5inches long and her skin was peeling off and really gross. The nurse said that she was "overcooked". i know some people are anti induction but if i would have waited til 41/42 weeks i might not of had a baby anymore.

Thats how i was..i went in at 39 weeks for an induction and i was on cervidil for 3 days and on the 4th morning they finally put me on pitocin. Pitoin makes it HURT, my contractions were immediately 2 mins apart and never let up. i went into full force labor right away once they hooked it up and it was INTENSE.
