Is labor starting?

posted 26th Jan
I've been getting these sharp pains in my pelvis from like the top of my area and all around my pelvis, it feels like a stabbing pain that makes me like jolt...it doesn't last that long and is sporadic right now but today it's been happening more than any other day. I went to doctors today and when I was hooked up to the machine for the non stress test, they measured contractions and I heard the nurse say I was having one but I didn't feel anything. And I am also 2 cm dilated now. Also, my stomach is like really hard right now. I just have no idea what to feel for and I don't want to not think its contractions when it really is and end just sitting here when I should be at the hospital.

Ooo I hope it is! Good luck! If you're not sure, better safe than sorry, call your doc. I think you go in when they're every 5 minutes for a minute each time

Ok should I be timing these pains? Do they sound like contractions?

I had back labor so I'm not really sure what the early contractions are meant to feel like. I just had wicked back pain. I'd be timing them just in case, some people don't really feel the contractions and don't know they're in labor until baby's coming out lol. If the nurses said you were contracting though I'd be inclined to think that you were getting close, especially since you're past your due date.

Well everyone has always told me, oh you will definitely know when you're having contractions. So am I supposed to wait until I'm like in unbearable pain? Because I also hear people say that some women have no idea, and knowing my luck that'll be me. I'm also losing more of my plug, even though the nurse says it doesn't mean anything. I just wish my water would break so I really had something to go by and knew for sure labor is happening. Ill start timing these pains I'm having, they're not like really painful so that's why I'm not sure.

Mine started not so painful. But as the hours went, they'd get stronger and definitely more painful. I didn't know what going to labor was like either cause i was induced with my first. I finally figured it out when I couldn't distract myself from them and they'd be a lot closer when I got up/moved around. So I would suggest just keeping an eye on them and see how they go. Could be your time.

Ok they seemed to stop for a little now, and I'm kinda scared to go to sleep in case I wake up to them being really bad and I'm like ready to push by then....but I don't think it'll happen. I hope I go soon though so I don't have to be induced Wednesday!

Don't worry, they'll definitely have you up before that point. That's one thing my Dr told me about knowing if it's time: if you can sleep through it, then they're no where strong enough. I know it's frustrating with your first cause you don't know anything and you'll be able to see why it's so hard to describe, why you really just have to experience to know an that a lot of it is just instinct after you have been through the process. Hold in there, you're almost done and you'll get to hold that baby.
