Who told you you need to cooperate with child support to get assistance? It was years ago, but I had the option to take child support OR the TANF (cash assistance) and food stamps had nothing to do with child support.

I just went through this the other day. Since you will be getting assistance the state will make you put him on child support, BUT good thing is...child support has absolutely nothing to do with visits/custody & he will have to go through the court to get any rights. Period.

So the only way you can get welfare is if he pays child support? Well.. can he pay and not see her?

If I'm not mistaken, you can get assistance without cooperating with child support enforcement if you can show 'good cause'.
If you can provide any type of proof, you're golden. Threatening texts from him to you, e-mails, messages, anything. You don't have to provide proof about the particular instance I'm thinking of, but you can show proof for other things and get the same result.

Can you call and ask if it can be avoided with good cause?
When I filed for medicaid, they told me if I could show good cause, I didn't have to file for child support.
