IUD problem?

posted 25th Jan
I've had my Paragard for a week now. I am assuming it made me start my period, because I have been cramping and bleeding.

I have been bleeding heavier than I ever have. Going through a tampon within 2 hours, a super tampon in 3 or so.

But also...When I checked myself after my insertion, I couldn't feel the strings. I have short fingers, so I may not have reached far enough...

Did the same thing when I first got mine. Bled heavily for 2 weeks. All my periods since have been average-heavy bleeding for a week and bad cramps, but 800mg ibuprofen takes care of cramps.

It's completely normal, the first 3 months were hell. On my 3rd period I ended up in the ER dehydrated from all the blood loss and almost had a blood transfusion. Can you feel your cervix? The strings should be coming right out from it but sometimes doctors cut it too short. If you do get to feel it at first they will be a little hard but they end up kinda curling around the cervix after a while.

I didn't bleed more than some spotting with mine but I think it's very normal. And some doctors cut them very very short.

I did have lots of cramps though! Just take some tylenol!

Also, I can just barely feel my string. I have to search for a minute and then I can barely feel with the tip of my finger.

The doctor had me feel the strings so I knew what to feel for. But...I'll try again if this bleeding ever stops.

The heavy bleeding is just nuts to me.

Hopefully it will get better, try and stick it out for at least 6 months if you can. It may get better, it usually does from what I've heard and my own experience.

And I thought the same thing on my first period when I got it, it was soooo heavy. But I'm very happy I'm having much more normal periods now.
