re: If you "found" God....

posted 25th Jan
I was raised in a very religious Catholic home. Went to church every Sunday and every holy day beyond that. My family took the rules very seriously. As a kid, I truly felt that if Jesus was real, then this was indeed his church. As an adult I fell away then fell back hard core in 2007 when I moved to Tucson, AZ, and found a monastery filled with really neat open minded, smart monks. I looked forward to church each week.

Later when I divorced my then husband, I felt like I had a true moment of clarity, I always had doubts and leeways in which I would fit religion into what made sense to me. I finally stopped forcing the issue and I am now peacefully, happily, agnostic.

It is comforting to know that some guy in the sky isn't going to punish me for all eternity if I do something stupid or against the "will" of an all knowing being who "loves you" but will watch you be tortured for breaking a rule that another human told that the all knowing being mandated. It's lunacy to me.

I feel like when I die, it will be like before I was born, something I will know nothing of. My body will return to the earth, and propagate new life with my elements.

That's where I come from. I don't think anyone is stupid for believing in god. I understand the human need for more. I feel like it doesn't exist and have made peace with that fully.

My husband has expressed interest in Unitarian churches if anything.

My brother has accused me of "not caring", but it's quite the opposite. As someone who does care, I cannot participate in something that I find to be a misleading fable.

I am agnostic. I was raised Catholic but my brother and I were much more into science. I believe there is reason for life, but I don't know what it is and I don't think anyone does and maybe never will. My brother is totally atheist. I have a feeling that I will be too as I get older.

Peace. Just peace. No fear. No pain. No worry. Just peace.
