how early can I file taxes?

I remember last year being able to file the end of january (about this time) but my husband says that its changed and this year the earliest you can file is like jan 31st/feb 1st? is this true?

Yeah. They changed a bunch of stuff so the soonest is Jan 30th I think. 31st? I can't recall, lol. But yes, it's later this year.

that really sucks! I was so excited to file! and I have a friend who is waiting for her refund to get into a stable place with her kid.  

They don't start accepting them until then. You can e-file. I did on Tuesday night.

You can efile now. The official accepting date is Jan 30th although some people have received early acceptance emails.

I had my taxes done on Wednesday.
I don't think the IRS will start processing until the 31st though

We did them last week, the IRS website said they wouldn't be processing until the 30th. We got notification yesterday that they had been accepted and processing.
