5 year old baby?

posted 25th Jan
That is what I seem to have.

Over the last 2 ish weeks, Cora has turned into a baby again and it's driving me mad

She tries to talk baby talk
Won't dress herself (or tries to and ends up screaming that she "can't")
Wants sippie cups
Tries to get me to rock her to sleep (   )
Wants to spend all day snuggling in bed
is eating with her hands or just a spoon
Totally clingy and on me all the time

I talked to her OT today and she said that around age 5, some kids regress slightly. They get overwhelmed with being a big kid and try to go back to the "easy way"

I understand that. It's just driving me crazy. It's like she is 18 months old again and can't do anything for herself.

I don't know what do to, or how much more I can take.

I don't give in to her requests for some things. And I certainly will NOT rock her to sleep.

We've been working on getting her to sleep in her own bed and for about a month, she was doing great. And now she won't even look at her bed

Anyone else been through this?

My 5 1/2 year old either wants to be grown, or wants to be a girl. But not usually a baby lol

Any big changes lately that might be pushing her to go backwards?

My son (5) was wrapping himself in a blanket and crawling up onto my lap saying "I baby. Whaaaa whaaaa" but in like a fake toy baby doll sort of voice. I think he may have been scripting off of Max and Ruby though.

I find what helps in these situations is making rules clear that you will/will not do some things. Like agree to cuddle more and help her dress, but she needs to pick out her clothes and cuddling is NOT in bed. That sort of thing. And if she REALLY wants to be a baby, say no more of her favorite foods, just those little jars of mush, that would probably stop the food part quick

My son is 3 1/2 and still so babyish. I don't think he has ever wanted to be a big kid once in his life. I have to do everything for him, and I can't tell his therapist what he can and can't do because I don't know, which is because he refuses to do anything himself. Sorry I don't have any advice because I go through it myself and some days I just want to pull my hair out.

No matter how clear I am about what I expect, it ends up in a tantrum with both of us pissed off

And to make it all a thousand times worse, she doesn't sleep through the night. And lately, her sleep has been just terrible

I can't think of anything that would trigger this. We haven't gone to the Y for a week, so that might be throwing her off. And we have had a ton of maintanence guys in here to fix the freezer.

It just better end soon.

Is she in school yet? Maybe something going on there?

nope. Not in school yet.

Her OT said that a lot of kids go through something similar right around age 5. I'm just at my wits end. I don't want a baby again. I want my smart, funny, talented big girl back
