FIL won't call our daughter by her name

My husband and I had a beautiful baby girl who is now 2 months old who we named Zofia Doris Mae. Doris is my husbands grandmother who passed away when he was young who he was really close to(she is actually his step grandmother if that's what you call it). His step dads mom. Anyway it meant alot to my hubby when I said we could use Doris as a middle name for our new daughter. Well ever since Zofia has been born his step dad will call her nothing but Doris, he's even been trying to get everyone on his side of the family to just call her Doris and it's really starting to bother me.. At first I thought it was because he was overly excited but now it's going to far.. We stopped for a visit last night cause they just got home from a trip and again all be did was call her Doris... Then when my two year old daughter went to give her baby sister a kiss she said "aww mommy zoey is soo cute" my FIL immediately told her no that's Doris there is no Zoey here (not jokingly but dead serious) he continues by walking away saying whose zoey there is no Zoey here.... I'm completely offended and feel disrespected. I spent 8 months (no joke I went through baby book after baby book to find the perfect name for our DD) for him to act like my Zofia doesn't exist... I think this is completely rude! Now he says that her name is Doris in his house, even at our wedding he asked my mom where Doris's carseat was.. It's going to far from when I first convinced myself that it was just going to be a cute thing between grandpa and grand daughter even though it bugged me right from the beginning... How would you girls feel???

Start calling him Stephanie or some random name..maybe he'll get the hint.

you need to put your foot down. Maybe even threaten to remove Doris from her names at all. That's just not ok. What a douche.

I can see how it's irritating but I mean it is one of her names. And a name that you said means a lot. To say her first name doesn't exist is rude, but if you didn't like a name or the option of it being used why add it? I'd explain to him that YES her name is Zofia, and you'd like him to acknowledge that and if it's used around him to respect that.

My MIL is the same way with our son. She calls him everything from "that boy" to "the baby" even "nana's boy" but never his actual name (Olyver). She said as soon as she found out his name she thought it was stupid & that he would get picked on. We hadn't really decided on a middle name when she started calling him "Danny" because we mentioned we might like Daniel but now that we have decided on a middle name (Leon) she makes SUCH an effort to not call him anything close to his name. She actually cried & begged us not to name him "such a ridiculous name." It is super annoying so I know where you are coming from & I wouldn't feel bad for being annoyed about it if I were you.

My step mother & her 3 grandchildren aren't big fans of Ezekiel because its not easy for them to pronounce so the first time I took DS over there they all started calling him Matthew(his middle name). All I really had to do was look at my father & tell him I wasn't comfortable with them not even trying to say it. Hell EVERYONE calls him Zeke, even I do sometimes. Not a lot lol because I like his name

NO! Neither can my sister in law WTF?! Her name is Anwen Lilie. She goes "Why don't you just name her Daisy May, it's easier" Uhhh yeah how about smurf you? lol

hahaha! Wow! I like her name. I could never use May as a name either(its my soon to be last name) I had Kairi on my girls list for awhile & my aunt sandy had a field day with that lol

My in laws hate DD's name. They tried calling her m&m. I felt so disrespected I wanted to cry. Finally my husband just told them they were to call her by her name and nothing else. They all listened aside from my sil. Who we just correct. We just say no her name is Matilda. You can call her Matilda.
