OB is a raging bitch! *long vent*

posted 25th Jan
So long story short I started doctoring in a different area up until a month ago and the area I was in had a doctor shortage and the rules where that you just seen your family doctor until 30 weeks unless you where a high risk pregnancy or had complications. Well being perfectly healthy I had not been reffered to an OB and just did monthly appointments with my family doctor. Then last month I moved and my new doctor reffered me to an OB right away because where Im living now they reffer you to an OB as soon as you are pregnant. I was really happy because everyone said this OB is awesome. I get there and she asks why I have had no pre natal care. I explained that I have had pre natal care including blood work every month and an ultrasound and check ups every month I just hadnt seen an OB yet. Then she went into raging bitch mode and said "Why havent you seen an OB yet because the way I see it there is no excuse and it is just neglectful." I explained the situation and she still continued to insist that I was being neglectful to my babies health and in a round about way calling me a bad parent. Im not sure how one helth districts regulations on OB visits make me neglectful but apparently she does. Then she went on to double and tripple check that I hadnt lied about not smoking, drinking or doing drugs and had the nerve to mutter something under her breath about how she wouldnt expect much better from someone my age (Im 1 . She is the only OB in the area accepting new patients and Im affraid Im going to get stuck doctoring with her and having her deliver my baby and at this point I would be quite happy if I never seen her face again.

Woah! I'm in Canada as well, and didn't get an OB until 30 weeks either. I'd ask for a new one (which I know isn't always possible like it seems to be in the states lol).

Although, I was told that Alberta has the worst healthcare in Canada lol

Yeah, I'd have been pissed. Can you get a midwife instead of an OB?

leave her ass and ask for a widwife if there are no OB's available. and if you do get stuck with her, I pray she isn't on call when you have your baby   I have only had my doctor deliver 1 of my 4 kids.

I do too, my midwife was wonderful. She was so sweet and was really worried about me and the baby, and not the medical costs.

Can you Get a midwife.
I honestly don't get the need for OBs unless there is a high risk pregnancy or multiples. We all have midwives here.

Wow. In BC, you don't even see an OB unless you're high risk or have complications, or if you prefer one I suppose. Sometimes you will be sent to consult with an OB, but midwives or family practice doctors provide primary care.

I just learned that here in the states 90 some % of women see a doctor for no reason, and everywhere else it's only if you're high risk. Idk for my first pregnancy, and my age I just went with a doctor I didn't know any better I guess. Made me wonder though and I look into it. I'll be trying a midwife next time. hopefully years from now. But Yeah OP I'd try and find a midwife. She sounds like a bitch.
