Being a surrogate for my sister.
posted 25th Jan
Okay. So in about 4 years my sister wants to have a baby. The problem, she can't carry a child past 18-20 weeks gestation. So I offered to be her surrogate. I wouldn't want compensation for just carrying the child obviously, and the said they'd pay the hospital and bills and what not. My question is, how much would the IVF cost? And about how much money are they looking at here?
ETA: And would my insurance still carry me or would I be dropped?

I would do that for my sister too
As for costs, I am not sure but if you have insurance you should call and ask them if you would be allowed to be a surrogate and still only pay your deductible or what ever. Then if your sister wanted to cover the medical costs it would be what ever you have to pay out of pocket. However IVF is another story because I don't think insurance will cover that so probably a couple thousand at the least . But who knows until you ask

Your insurance should still carry you, but the IVF is expensive.
I looked into it for a friend of mine (I wanted to be a surrogate for her), and she researched with me. There is so much testing that will need to be done, that after looking into it she and I both realized (Even without going through a surrogate agency) it would still cost around 20 - 30 thousand dollars.

Firstly you are amazing for ever trying. Second IVF is kinda a toss up for costs. Depends on amount of cycles needed, medications, etc. Check out a few places not one, because some of them offer deals for 3 cycles. Some have money back garuntee's if no conception. Their are also state grants for fertility treatments as well.

Thank you all for the info. And definitely not amazing. haha. I just want her to have a baby and for me to have a nephew/niece. Plus since I can't have anymore of my own this well let me be pregnant one last time like I had planned before I found out.
I will definitely be looking into it all. I am going to school to be a nurse right now and when I get out and after I have a job I'll check with my insurance provider.

Your sister would have to take our a policy. Your insurance will not cover you.
I actually am in the process in being a Surrogate. And she told me the intended parents will have to cover me.
