"80% were expected to be under age 20"

posted 25th Jan
USA Today had an article up for a pro-life march, saying they expected hundreds of thousands of people, and claimed that around 80% would be under age 20.

Do you think that someone that young fully has a grasp on the situation or options at that point? Do you think being that young, is just them being shaped by religion and family with no idea of what happens in the rest of the world? Or do you think they have enough life experience to warrant their pro-life stance?

I know when I was a teen I was prolife but thats because I didnt fully understand all the situations that would call for an abortion. I only saw it as a baby being killed.

I have been pro-choice since I first heard about abortion. My junior year in high school I did a research paper on abortion pros and cons. So yes I believe someone at 20 years old can fully believe in their choice. I have been firmly rooted in my belief since I was 15.

So, do YOU think everyone under the age of 20, who takes a pro life stance, is brainwashed?

No, I don't think people that young have an idea.

I was profile up until my unplanned pregnancy. I didn't abort, but it changed my perspective entirely. I looked more into it, and I am pro-choice.

As a teenager I honestly never even thought about abortion. It wasn't something talked about being pro-life or pro-choice. I didn't even research it until I was much older, as in college.

Personally I think a lot of your whole world view, whether about abortion or not, is shaped by your family and upbringing at that point in your life. So, I'd say most are there because of the religion/family they were raised in. I won't use the word brainwashed... just because I'm sure pro-lifers wouldn't appreciate that sentiment... but yeah.

I wouldn't take an 18 year old pro-lifer's views very seriously. I can at least have some respect if the view was come to by someone's own experiences and soul searching.

That's how I was too, until I came to BG. And I realized there was more than black and white. I'm now very pro-choice

As a whole, yes. That's my opinion. I think that until you have real world experience with a situation, you go off of what you're told. And going against one's religion kind of makes them an outcast.

ETA- not JUST on abortion... about most adult topics.

I think anyone who takes a prolife stance is brainwashed, regardless of their age.

Last year at the age of 19 I became pregnant and I knew I had a choice to make, but honestly I never considered abortion. I stopped talking to several family members who even hinted at it. I knew it would be hard and I knew I wasnt ready. But in those nine months I got ready. My child didn't chose to be conceived. So yes I believe its possible at that age to know your prolife. Looking back now I know I made the right decision and would make it again in a heaetbeat.

I don't maybe think they're brainwashed, but perhaps they haven't realistically thought through what abortion being illegal would mean. They do have a limited life experience generally, and aren't fully mature yet. I mean, yeah, ideally, nobody would ever need to or want to abort, but it just isn't that easy and I don't think they're really ready to grasp some of the necessary evils in the world at that point in life.

Maybe brainwashed is too harsh of a word... I"ll go change the OP. It's my opinion and not relevant to the topic. I edited the OP to make it more nonbiased.

Yeah, but being pro life means you want abortion illegal for everyone...not just you. I don't think a 20 year old has much business wanting to make a law that governs ALL women, when they're not even fully mature themselves, frankly.
