dd is almost 7mths and i also decided to self wean too  i love bfing!!! and thought of taking her boob away from her, sadness me. Its her comfort and i read bfing until 2yrs old helps increase their IQ. I am so glad i decided to bf and stick with it! the first few weeks are hard, but well with it!!!

that's SO true! When i started it was so bad, i had cracked nipples and they bled and she had a bad latch at start, but then she learned to adjust different   i gave away all my formula so i wouldnt give it to her, the day after i got out of the hospital my milk came in, and oh boy did it ever! i looked like i had fake boobs and they were rock hard! i couldnt get LO to eat and i thought of giving her formula, but then i came on here and learned that you can hand express. i never would have thought of that TBH.

I'm planning on doing this. When he's around 6 months, I wanna start pumping out more than the occasional milk for hubby to feed him, for when I'm done BF around a year. I wanna pump a crap ton and store it in the in laws deep freezer. Then just defrost and put it in a sippy.

Yep and the motions of breastfeeding help to develop their jaw muscles and they end up talking sooner than other children. My son is about 1 yr advanced in speech, which is a LOT at his age.

Meh - I don't wonder too much. Lots of people do things that seem contradictory - like smoke & work out. Truth is,m the smoker probably needs the work out more because they smoke. Still better to do the "good" thing always, even if everything you do isn't up to snuff. I don't think it's counterproductive at all. Breastmilk is full of antibodies, something healthfood doesn't ever have and a child who eats junk food will likely benefit more from the continued nursing than the child who is eating all healthy, balanced, organic home cooked meals. Nursing a toddler is a whole lot easier than cooking- at leas tot me it is...so that might be why mom is willing to do one & not prioritizing the other. *I* still cook, but I've never liked it. I also grow veggies & stuff - but I do see how/why someone could do that (feed junk food & still nurse).

He is extremely interested lol it's been like 3 1/2 months since he stopped and he still asks for it allll the time. Every time someone mentions me giving birth he starts talking about him getting breastmilk again.

It's not counter productive lol
Have you ever researched the emotional/ psychological/ intellectual benefits of breastfeeding? Not to mention boosting the immune system and getting them all the vitamins they need. Helping to develop their jaw muscles for speech. etc etc etc

Well I don't think it has anything to do with cooking. A toddler can nurse all the time, but still needs well balanced meals. I just never will understand the mentality of some parents who are all about BF and delaying solids and no rice cereal, yet they fill there kids full of smurf food. They got a good start but that's all is if you don't contuine to nurisure them with real foods.

Yes, I BF my kids for all those reasons, but I'm talking about soley based on health benefits. To me it's a waste.

I'm sure it will, but if for some reason it doesn't I will still pump and give it to him.

You just contradicted yourself though. It's not a waste if they're still getting all those benefits. And even just the health benefits aren't a waste because they are getting all the vitamins they need.
I mean, I've never seen anyone who delayed cereal, extended breastfed, etc etc and then just fed constant junk food. Before I came to the hospital my son was eating mcdonalds once or twice a week. I think out of 21+ meals that's not too bad, plus his pedi(who is a completely natural, un circing, extedned breastfeeding, babywearing) mom herself suggested him eating mcdonalds once in a while to help boost his weight gain. Fast food has changed a lot over the yrs and is a lot healther, especially since kids gets juice and fruit instead of soda and fries.

Gross. Fast food and all processed food has only become more genetically notified. It's worse for you! There is noting natural or healthy about eating chicken nuggets or a cheese burger that had over 70 different chemicals in it. And I agree most parents who go out if their way to give their baby a head start don't just shove junk down their kids mouths, but I know some. I also see so many post in BG about food that people full their kids with, it's just really gross to me. But to each their own.
