E. coli in the lungs

posted 25th Jan
My cousin's husband was in a horrible accident a couple weeks ago. He is in critical condition and is not getting better. He has now developed E. coli in his lungs. They had to take his breathing tube out and do a tracheotomy. He used to recognize people when they would take him off sedation, but now he recognizes no one and they have to restrain him because he fights.

This doesn't sound like he's going to pull through IMO. I keep my mouth shut about it, though.
What do you think?

It's only been a couple weeks, it will probably take more time then that. Not to mention physical therapy. I imagine it's heart wrenching. Just try to be a shoulder your friend can cry on.

Yeah. He's had like a new setback every day since the accident. It just seems like its not going to get better.

His hips are shattered too, so he will not be able to bear any weight for a long time either.

I've been through it twice, different situations with loved ones. My Dad who had kidney failure. For a while they weren't sure his surviving Kidney was going to make it. More then a year later he no longer has to do dialysis due to being good on his new healthy diet. He is still on transplant list.

My mother-in-law had a stroke recently, still in physical theropy twice a week. She has very little feeling in her left leg, hand, and foot.

It's hard seeing it, and both looked liked they may or may not of lived. My Dad actually didn't tell anyone until he was out of hospital, as he didn't want us to see him like that.

I'm glad they pulled through ok!   I hope your MIL makes a full recovery!
