Cloth Nappies?

posted 25th Jan
My mum had to use them with me when i was a baby cause my skin was so sensitive to everything! lol. Luckily i don't have that problem with dexters bum! His bottom seems to be the only place he doesn't have sensitive issuses with .lol. ANYWAY! I've just seen some on a baby and they're pretty cute! all the different designs and colours you can get. lol.

I'm pretty interested in getting some so I don't have to keep spending a stupid amount of nappies!

I'd love to hear from some mummies who use them. What do you think of them? do you find them easier and just better use then disposables? Let me know!

Cheers!   Xx

I love them, I would never ever go back. They don't have all the nasty chemicals, and you're right, they ARE cute. Some are even fuzzy, they're my favorites. I don't find it any more difficult that sposies. At least if I run out, I don't have to leave my house to get more. Just throw them in the washer.

I'm in the UK too and we have different brands here to the US.
What age is your son?

There are different types of nappies, the easiest are pocket nappies. They are just one piece and you stuff the absorbent pads inside. This makes them slimmer fitting and easy to wash and they don't leak.

All in ones suck and leak ime and take longer to dry.

Fitted nappies are my next favourite, that's when you fix (either by velcro or poppers/snaps) the nappy onto the baby and then you put a wrap on ontop to keep everything waterproof.

Fav brands are
Ebay cheapies - pocket nappies from ebay, Alva baby is a popular brand
Charlie Bananas - pocket/hybrid nappies with cute colours and patters
Bum Genuis - pockets
Fuzzi Bunz - pockets

Motherease onesize - fitted, i prefer bamboo fabric it's much softer
Motherease Sandys - as above
Motherease Airflow - awesome wraps
Tots bots - they do fitted and all in ones. They have really cute wraps
Little Lamb - nice soft bamboo nappies

I'd only got a couple of each type of nappy to see what fits your child well and what style you like. 20 nappies in total usually means washing them 3x a week and is about the right amount.

You'l also want a large lidded bucket or huge wet bag to store them. And a small wet bag for out of the house. I love mine from tiny nippers, very cheap, waterproof, smell proof and cute minky fabric with nice designs.

I love Alva. I like BumGenius, but they're made in China too but are 4x the price and work the same, so what's the point? I do like their Flip covers, though. Those and Wolbybug are my favorite covers.

I loved them and I had to go back to disposables in the peds hospital when LO had a bad allergy but I still kept them around for times when LO seems to be sick and his butt is sensative from the super acid poop he can sometimes get when sick and are great on the times you forget you are out of disposables or your baby is between sizes so even if you buy a few to try out at first and its not for you after all keep them you will love having them for random moments btw I used AIOs and I liked prefolds but the covers bugged me and LO but try them out there is a forum on here all about them I learned most of my info from that and the youtube vids they gave me on there I fell in love and still often use the diaper cleaning detergent for my animals because its so safe and good to use around them so even if you choose not to use them its a good learning experience I will still try them out with this next baby as well since it may take to them as well and rumor has it they are better than pull ups to use when potty training but not as messy as underwear

I know, there's just no point in BG is there. China cheapies are just as good. The only reason i bought Charlie Banana and Fuzzi Bunz is because DS outgrew all the cheap ones. I wish Alva did an extra large size, it's a shame their birth to potty size only goes up to 33-35 lbs.

I forgot to mention fleece and wool covers, they're good too. Wool you don't really need to wash, it's worth a google op.

Gen Y and Blueberry are super cute wraps in the UK.

Sites i like here (other than ebay) are Fill Your Pants and Babykind. There's another site i much prefer but the name totally escapes me, i'll add a link when i remember.
