Ive been single since September...I decided I wasnt going to look for love anymore. Well, it seems love may have found me instead. I would have never looked for a black guy, just because of how I was raised...I come from a very...traditional family and most of this town is racist. Im not sure if we decided to get together how my family is going to react. Anybody else have this problem? how did you get your family to accept your SO?

I did/do not. I would have the same problem, because my family is pretty much the same way.

I didn't have that problem, my family loves M. Even if they didn't, it wouldn't matter to me. They are either going to respect him and our marriage or they can get out of my life. I do have a friend (who is white) and her boyfriend is black. Her dad is racist and doesn't accept him at all. She couldn't care less though, she's completely cut ties with him.

My family would smurf a brick. But that doesn't make it right. You have to do what's right for you.

I met a black guy who I really likes & we wanted to date but I was afraid that my family might not approve, my immediate wouldn't have said anything but I have a lot of racist people in my extended family. Looking back I wish I would have said yes despite what anyone thought

when i was 19, i was still living at home, so my mom kicked me out and i moved in with a friend, her bf, and her brother (who i never met)... the guy and i started looking for an apartment, but, then i started falling for this girl's brother and ended up leaving the colored kid.

but uh. yeah. no interracial dating in my family.

Knowing my mom, she would be really excited as long as he was a good guy. She could care less and thinks mixed babies are cute, lol. My great-grandma and great-aunts would probably not react the same way, but I wouldn't care at all.

Eh. Is it really worse than saying "black"?

My family wouldn't have any issues with it. Although, my great grandma (she's 99 right now but this was probably 7 years ago), said the n word in front of my cousins then black boyfriend. lol, I don't think it was a huge issue for him but it gives us something to laugh about.

I just want to point out that its not just white families who have a problm. There's also a lot of black families who wouldn't want their son dating a white chick

I'd rather her say black than to refer to someone as colored. The term colored is offensive.
