Yeah, when I'm there they try to raise him!   But if SO wants him to stay he needs to he the one to look after him.

How often does this happen?
Is there any issue with him not wanting your son around your family? If not, then maybe he wants to start spending time alone with him? In which case i'd explain to your SO that it's important for your son to spend time with all family members and suggest he takes care of your son on any other time that you aren't going there that would suit you both.

I totally understand 4 hours travel plus visiting time is a long time to be apart from your baby and especially if your SO has a temper with him already.
Can you talk about his temper and what is normal child development and what is healthy parenting? Could you encourage him to play with and care for your son and back off so they have more time together but with you still being close by?

I live with my SO too with my parents living 2 hrs away and when i visit i take my kids cuz my parents dont see them often not cuz i dont trust SO becasue I do with my son (not DD whos only 5mo lol). SO understand and theres no problem but if there was an issues tuff smurf for him cus i want my kids to see my side of the family as much as possible.

hmm, could his parents be the ones behind him wanting your son to stay there with them?

i can see your preference is for your SO to care for him if he wants him to stay, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a fact or that it's what's best for your son. What is your SO's POV? Maybe he doesn't like being seperated from his son either, and he might not feel confident looking after him which is why his parents take over.

On a seperate issue, if you're feeling uncomfortable with his parents then i think you should chat to your SO about it and both set some boundaries. He is your child, you are the parent and it sounds like it might become an issue that you should deal with now if you can.

It happens every time I go home.. There shouldn't be an issue. When SO is around him he just plays xbox and takes DS to his mom. DS has a temper to when he's mad he screams! & that goes through SO, so I know leaving him up there for days would be a no no.

Most likely! Before we go every time, EVERY TIME we leave MIL is like " you want to stay with us miles? We can keep hm for you."

Sounds like she needs to back off. Talk to your SO about it. Then i'd figure out what i was comfortable with and spell it out to her. I'd start by telling her how you love that she wants to be close to her grandson and you've appreciated all her help so much, and now .......... insert what you want......
Hopefully that way she wouldn't be offended and things would be better.

That's kinda rude that she lives with him and would want to take time away from your parents who don't see him as often.

I'm at my house 4-6 days. I try to come down every week or two.
