chronically sick toddler

posted 24th Jan
Ok ladies, I need some advice. Before my son turned two he had ear infections every 4-6 weeks. We had a referral to a specialist but then he out grew them and has only had one since (he'll be 3 in March) Well now he has strep/throat infections every 4-6 weeks now.

I KNOW this isn't normal but I can't get his doctor to do anything but give antibiotics and send us on our way.

What do I do?!!!!!!! I'm looking into getting a new doctor but he has a doctors appointment tomorrow to be seen cuz he's sick again.

How do I make her stop rushing and give me a real damn answer and run some tests? What could this be if you've had some experiences like this?

He probably needs his adnoids and tonsils out.

That's what I'm worried about

I would try to see a ear, nose, throat doc to see if there is something anatomically wrong that is causing him to get so many infections. You also might try to see an allergist/immunologist to see if he has environmental allergies that are contributing to him being sick or if he possibly has low antibodies that help him fight infection.

It sucks for 'em for a few days, but the younger they are, the faster the recovery usually is. Research some good ENT doctors in your area.

Hmm. That's a good idea too. Is the only way to test him is a scratch test?

My SIL's kids are always sick too. Turns out their rental house had mold! Is that a possibility?

I know a good ENT. We were referred to him for chronic ear infections. So I'll go back and see that one once I get a referral.

We rent an apartment so that is definitely a possibility. Can I get the to test for it?

I hope he gets better. And you can test for allergies with blood work now, but some say a scratch test is more accurate (I don't agree). He'll need blood drawn to check his antibodies anyway. Good luck.

Stop the antibiotics and work on healing his gut and immune system from all the damage that they've most likely caused. There's info online on how they wreak havoc on our bodies and increase chances of infection, and also about probiotics (the first thing i'd put him on) and gut healing, aswel as looking into other things that can treat any ailments in the future.

Can his doctor prescribe some probiotics?

Sure, if you're interested, the tests I'm talking about are called RAST (allergies) and Immunoglobulin G (antibodies).
