Article reads:

An Oregon state legislator has introduced a bill that would make packs of cigarettes prescription-only, the Willamette Weekreports:

Rep. Mitch Greenlick (D-Portland), filed a bill that would put nicotine in the same category as ketamine, and would make having the addictive substance without a doctor’s note a crime.
House Bill 2077 would classify nicotine as a Schedule III controlled substance and would make the unlawful possession and distribution of nicotine a crime punishable by up to one year of prison and a $6,250 fine.

The state legislature banned smoking in all bars, bowling alleys and bingohalls in 2009. A no smoking rule—including chewing tobacco—took effect on all state government property this year.

I enjoy being able to go to a restaurant now without smoke in it, but making a cigarette prescription only is idiotic. We all know they are harmful and I feel like a Dr knowingly prescribing them to a patient would go against his Hippocratic oath.

Better to let a person make their own bad choices and leave the Drs out of this.

Medical malpractice will go through the roof!

I mean, if you end up sick from smoking, do you sue the doctor who prescribed it?

It makes no sense to me as to why they would make it prescription only.

This is stupid as smurf.
In what circumstance would a cigarette meet prescription requirements? Like what would its medical purpose be? There are PLENTY of things that are harmful and addictive. The government needs to back the smurf up and realize that we're adults and should be able to decide for ourselves whether or not we put harmful substances into our bodies.
