Vitamin K shot?

posted 24th Jan
I was wondering if anyone opted out of the Vitamin K shot? My first child had the shot, without my knowledge or approval, because it was policy. I don't see a reason to give my newborn a supplement only 5 in 100,000 babies actualy need. Thoughts?

My kids don't get the shot . I have no family history of blood issues plus the blood starts cloting on its own by seven days after birth. You'll need to ak for the waivers since most doctors won't even mention its an option they'll just pass it off as policy .

You have to sign something in order for them to do it. Maybe you didn't notice what paper it was? With first we did all newborn shots and eye drops. Didn't know back then lol. With second we skipped eye drops and hep 'cause I am STD free as is our baby. We opted to do Vitamin K in liquid form over course of three days.

Delayed cord clamping has been shown to help exactly what the shot does. I'm opting out of it.

We aren't going to circumcise, but I guess that makes since. If the baby can'y clot thay wouldn't cut him.

Didn't do it for DD and not doing it for this baby. Uncessary procedure we feel like. All we had to do is sign a piece of paper

Yeah there can be a bit of paper work just to have a baby.

My Dr. said she prefers not to do that because of a risk of back flow, that can make the baby anemic. I just don't see why a breast fed baby can't get everything he or she needs from mom.

I've never heard of that nor can I find anything that states that. Delaying cord clamping is safe, and the blood that may go back to baby belongs to the baby so it doesn't harm baby.

She was talking about possible back flow into the placenta instead of into baby.

That's why your supposed to wait till the placenta detracted thn wait till the cord turns white then you know the blood has gone to the baby. We delayed with all three of my kids.when done right its totally safe .
