38 week induction on 16 pregnant

posted 24th Jan
I am watching an episode of 16 and pregnant. The girl asked her Dr if she could be induced early because she was so uncomfortable(I don't know why people think that they should be comfortable the last month of pregnancy). She was 37 weeks. The the Dr said, Sure lets do it next week. Well during the induction they said things were moving slow and she had to have a c-section.

I think if the girl would have waited until she went into labor then a c-section could have been avoided.

I don't know if they think they should be comfortable, but I know if at a certain point it is causing more stress to your body than you or the baby can take, they'll induce you. I was pretty little with my first and they wanted to induce me, I asked them if I could wait at least until my due date, he came 3 days early.

Same with me. I definetly should have waited and I think I would have never had a c-section with my first

More the Dr's fault than hers. She's young and probably misinformed. What's his excuse?

I think Drs give out inductions far to readily on that program. You hardly hear of people getting induced over here, UK, unless its medically necessary. They won't even give you a membrane sweep until 41 weeks.

I think it has to do with the NHS. Its a lot cheaper for a woman to a natural a birth as possible. The less medical intervention the better/cheaper.

Eh, she could have ended up in a csection anyway...you really never know. Shes also 16, uneducated on things like the complications of trying to push your body into doing something it isnt ready to. The doctor is nuts but he just cares about $$ most likely.

Sounds like she was not educated and her doctor was not updated on current practices. As I recall they are now encouraging no induction until 39 weeks and above. Unfortunately many people will take their Doctor's word like he/she is a god. I'm a big researcher so I was fine when our babies decided to go a week overdue.

Moronic doctor. Probably eagerly rubbing their hands on the extra $ they made doing a section. I'm getting induced at 39 weeks, but ONLY because of gestational diabetes and high amniotic fluid, and ONLY induced for vaginal delivery and not a c-section (unless it turns out to be medically necessary). I hate that in the US c-sections are being done so much. True, the rate has dropped, but it's still stupid to me to get an elective c-section if there's no medical reason. I knew a girl who opted for one so she could use the extra two weeks she got for medical leave from her job.
Idiots.

Yeah whereas here insurance pays them So the more $$ it costs the more they make. So why not do unnecessary procedures, right?
